Night works this Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 November

The Dome Valley project team will be undertaking survey works through the middle of the Dome this week as part of planning for construction next year.

These site investigations are planned to occur between 7pm - 4am on both Wednesday and Thursday nights to minimise impacts on road users.

During these hours, sections of the state highway between the Waiterere Bridge (just south of rest area shown in the image above) and Waiwhiu Road will be reduced to a single lane with stop/go traffic control.

The team are not using intrusive or noisy equipment during these night works so there will be no impact to residents living in proximity to SH1.

Please plan your journey, reduce your speed and take extra care travelling though the work area.

Progress so far

Since commencing construction in February this year, road widening and retaining walls have been constructed at the southern entrance to the Dome Valley.

Widening to enable the installation of a right-turn bay into Sheepworld, turnarounds at Sheepworld and Christine Place, road side barriers and centre median safety barrier will be completed by mid-2020.

The second section of the safety project, south of Wayby Valley Road, got underway in September, with a widened centreline, flexible centre safety barriers and roadside barrier improvements programmed to be completed in 2020. There are also three new turnarounds and a retaining wall in this section of the project.

The remaining sections of the safety improvements project will get underway in stages from March 2020 with the project due for completion late-2021.

The image below shows road widening underway south of Sheepworld in preparation for safety barrier installation.
