Events This Week27th September - 7th October - IA Exhibition by Zena Elliott IA: Te Ia o Te Awa features new work by Zena Elliott, a Kirikiriroa-based artist who hails from Te Teko. Zena's mahi combines past, present, and future through materials, methods, and aesthetics. IA is part of a larger body of work by the artist that links the fluidity of rivers with gender and cultural identity. 4-6th October 9am-12pm - Mural Painting with Zena Elliott Zena is making a mural to accompany IA at Riverslea Mall while the exhibition is on. Please see our other listings (or the Wormhole website) for further information. We hope you can come along and take part! Saturday 7th October 12pm - Potluck Lunch at Wormhole Celebrate Riverslea Mall's new mural by Zena Elliott and the community, and the end of the IA: Te Ia o Te Awa exhibition at Wormhole. Bring some kai to share, meet the artist(s), and have a good time! If the weather is fine we'll gather near the new mural at Riverslea's Rata Ave entrance. If not, we'll be at Wormhole Gallery and Studio inside Riverslea Mall (opposite the Medical Centre). Saturday 7th October 9am-1pm - Awatapu Community Garden Planting Day Come on down to the Awatapu Community Garden on the 7th October 9am - 1pm to help plant heaps of vegetable plants, build compost and warm farms, do some outdoor arts and crafts and share in a free BBQ. Lots of fun for the whole whānau- We look forward to seeing you there! Monday 9th - Sunday 15th October - Whakatāne Kiwi Trust Kiwi Week October is an exciting time for the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust as it incorporates Kiwi Week! (09-15th) Kiwi week is an initiative started by Save the Kiwi that was originally Kiwi Month which was a bit easier to scatter events throughout the month BUT do not worry we have managed to squeeze a month’s worth of activities into one week! 'Shifting Perspective' Exhibition - Most of us face challenging times during our lives - some more severe than others - and we somehow need to deal with them. 'HE PAE TAWHITI: Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua' Exhibition - This exhibition of portraiture and fashion highlights the need to look beyond western forms of cultural recognition, and look to traditions that can be applied in this day and age to heal Papatūānuku. 'Te Ararau oo Anu Maatao' Exhibition - An exhibition by Te Kaha, Cristina and Te Kohatu. Below the ocean, where the intense cold exists, we acknowledge Te Anu Maatao, Atua of space, personified as cold.
