Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Website Launched for World Mental Health Day 2026

To mark World Mental Health Day, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust has launched a new interactive website, providing signposting to the range mental health support available using a unique timeline of life’s stages.

NHS services can sometimes be difficult to navigate, with medical terminology and unfamiliar service names making it hard for people to know where to turn for help.

The Support at Every Stage website takes a different approach, organising mental health and wellbeing support around familiar stages of life rather than clinical services. Through an interactive, scrollable timeline, visitors can explore support for early years, growing up, adulthood, family life and later life, alongside a dedicated section on recovery.

The Bleed Support and Care Box - Highly Commended at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2026

The initiative has now been recognised by HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2026 as Highly Commended in the Palliative & End of Life Safety Initiative of the Year category. The judges recognised how this initiative supported and prevented harm to those who experience something nothing can prepare you for.

A Bleed Support and Care Box contains equipment such as a dark towel which can cover the visual impact of a bleed, a dark fleece blanket for warmth and comfort, as well as gloves, an apron and wipes for cleaning purposes. The box is accompanied with a leaflet which was coproduced with families who have experienced an event like this. Many of the boxes given out to families are not used but knowing they are there should they be needed is having a profound impact on those family members.

A Shining Example of Excellence in Health Visiting

The Hull 0-19 Health Visiting Team, part of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, has been recognised as the Institute of Health Visiting’s (iHV) Health Visiting Team of the Year 2026. The team received the prestigious award for their pioneering work supporting families across Hull.

The Institute of Health Visiting describe awards as a celebration of the dedication and impact that health visitors and their teams make to babies, children and families every day.

The judging panel praised the Hull 0-19 Health Visiting Team for its "whole-system, innovative approach" in tackling health inequalities and improving breastfeeding rates within one of the most socially deprived communities in the UK.

New Dementia-Friendly Space Opens at Alfred Bean Hospital

We have opened a new dementia-friendly space at Alfred Bean Hospital in Driffield. ‘Our Space’ has been purposefully designed to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for people living with dementia and those who support them. It was launched by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust to support independent living, wellbeing and community connection.

The project was developed through ongoing engagement and consultation with people with dementia, whose experiences and insights directly influenced how the space should look, feel and function. The development was supported by Innovations in Dementia, Humber’s Older People’s Mental Health Community Services and Humber Property Management Services.

The room has been created as a practical resource within the hospital where people can learn more about living well with dementia, access information or support and explore aids and adaptations that can help maintain independence at home.

A Little Gift Can Make a Big Difference: NHS Charity Launches Christmas Appeal

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s charity Health Stars is calling on the community to help bring some festive cheer to people receiving mental health care and support in hospital this Christmas.

While many people look forward to spending the festive season with family and friends, some adults and young people will spend Christmas in hospital as they receive treatment and support for their mental health.

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health inpatient services for children, young people and adults across Hull and East Yorkshire.

Following the success of last year's appeal, Health Stars is asking local residents, organisations and businesses to donate gifts to help make Christmas a little brighter for patients spending the festive period in the Trust's care.

A video about the PACE 3 year plan

Our patients, service users, carers and communities are at the centre of everything we do. There is no better or more important way of improving our services than by listening to what individuals think, feel and experience throughout their care journey and beyond.

We aim to involve patients, carers and the public in everything from what services we provide to how they are delivered and how we can improve them in the future. We provide opportunities for patients, carers and families to share their experiences and tell their stories.

You can get involved by:

Attending a Patient and Carer Experience forum

Our Patient and Carer Experience forums in Hull and East Riding, Whitby and District and Scarborough and Ryedale give patients, service users, carers, staff and voluntary organisations the opportunity to have a voice and to raise awareness of patient and carer experience.

Please contact the Patient and Carer Experience team for further details.

Our forum dates are:

Scarborough and Ryedale

Joint Scarborough and Ryedale (in partnership with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)

Friends and Family Test

The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback.

Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment.

91.2%

of respondents (375 total) thought they were involved in their care and listened to within the Community and Primary Care Division in August 2026.

"I am very happy with the treatment I received. The team at the hospital were very friendly and helpful as were the follow up appointments for the removal of the staples and the physio appointments."
