Carer Gateway Updates Service Provider Referrals On behalf of our Carer Gateway team, we would like to thank all our service providers for their ongoing support in referring carers in the community to Carers WA. This is much appreciated and helps us reach more carers in need of support. If carers are interested in funded services please let them know to contact Carers WA to explore eligibility. In some instances we may provide referrals and resources to empower the carer to self-fund future respite or practical services. Carers Week 2023 Carers Week 2023 Carers Week is Australia’s celebration of carers and is held annually in the third week of October. Run by Carers Australia and the network of Carers Associations, National Carers Week 2023 will take place from Sunday,15th to Saturday, 21st October 2023. Carers WA will be hosting a number of events and activities to recognise carers in our state. Details about some of our upcoming activities are included below. Carers Week Grants - Deadline Extended Carers WA is offering grants of $500 - $800 to carer related organisations and carer support groups who would like assistance in hosting an event to celebrate National Carers Week 2023. To be eligible to apply, you must either be from a not-for-profit organisation or local government
authority. Regional, rural and remote organisations are encouraged to apply. Government departments, individuals and groups already funded by Carers WA are not eligible for grants. The Carers Week Activity Grants are proudly supported by Lotterywest. 2023 Young Carer Art Awards Carers WA is inviting young people aged 8-25 who have a family member living with disability, physical or mental health challenges to submit an entry into the 2023 Young Carer Art Awards. Entries may include but are not limited to; digital art, illustration, photography, drawing, painting, multimedia (video) and collage. All entries must address the theme ‘Being a young carer is like being a superhero’. Applications from regional WA are strongly encouraged to apply as there is some travel assistance available for winning entries. To find out more click here. Practical support for family carers is available in every region of WA. Support services include counselling, tailored support packages, emergency respite and online supports. In Western Australia, Carers WA delivers Carer Gateway services and other services alongside our regional partners Helping Minds and Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre. News and Updates Young Carers Bursary Program The Young Carer Bursary Program is designed to support young carers in continuing their education while reducing the need for paid work alongside their study and caring duties. If you are a young carer, you may be eligible for a $3,768 bursary to help with your education needs and resources. Your application will be carefully reviewed and assessed, and the approval process may take up to 16 weeks. Please remember that the application deadline is on Tuesday, 12th September 2023. Resources Translated Resources With the recent addition of Korean, Spanish and Ukrainian, Carers WA now has resources available in 12 different languages.Other languages available include Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Italian, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.To access a resource in another language, click here. Prepare to Care Booklet The Prepare to Care hospital team are now back in the hospitals, providing resources for carers and education for staff. Hospital admission can be a critical time, not only for the patient but also for the person who cares for them.
