Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust Shortlisted for Two National Patient Safety AwardsOur Trust has been shortlisted for two projects at the 2026 HSJ Patient Safety Awards. A Bleed Support and Care Box initiative has been shortlisted in the Palliative and End of Life Safety Initiative of the Year category. The Trust’s Palliative and End of Life Care team introduced Bleed Support and Care Boxes to help bring dignity, comfort and a sense of preparedness to families facing the risk of a catastrophic bleed. The boxes were thoughtfully co-produced with a relative whose family experience ensured the items inside reflect real lived experience and what truly matters in those moments. Training is now available for Hull schools to access which supports learning more about how to improve the experience of children with sensory differences within the school setting. Online resources are also available for schools outside of Hull providing supportive advice and signposting. Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust's First Patient Safety Conference Held in JuneThis year, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust held its first ever Patient Safety Conference, highlighting innovation and demonstrating how highly the Trust prioritises patient safety within our services. The Trust values underpinned the entire event – Caring, Learning and Growing together. Sarah Smyth, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Professions, opened the event by sharing that ‘Patient safety doesn’t just sit alongside these values, it is about how we bring them to life every day within our work”. Unintentional Injuries and Safer Sleep Event 2026The Unintentional Injuries and Safer Sleep Team at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust hosted a successful event at St Stephen’s Shopping Centre in Hull marking Child Safety Week 2026. The event brought together a range of partners to share vital safety information with local families. The team was joined by colleagues from RENEW (drug and alcohol service), the Road Safety team (car seat safety) and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. Together, they provided attendees with advice and guidance on a wide range of child safety topics. Around 40 parents and carers attended the event, taking the opportunity to speak with practitioners and gain practical tips on keeping children safe. The topics being covered included car seat safety, safer sleep practices and reducing risks within the home. Celebrating the Volunteers Working to Support Services Across the TrustIn June, the Trust held a celebration event inviting all the volunteers who support the Trust to come together and to thank them for their unique contributions. The event held at the Lecture Theatre in Willerby provided an opportunity to meet fellow volunteers and share the nominations received for the Volunteer Awards which are due to be held later this year to announce the winners. Volunteers are a valued part of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, supporting services to deliver the best possible care to all our service users, patients and their families. The Volunteer service is also a lifeline to many people who can access it as a way to give back or learn new skills. Volunteering can also be a valuable part of a person’s recovery journey. Understanding ‘Attunement’ in Baby DevelopmentDuring Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (8-14 June), Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust encouraged parents, carers and professionals to recognise the importance of attunement in supporting babies' emotional wellbeing and healthy development. Attunement was the theme of this year's awareness week, it is the ability to tune in and connect with another person on an emotional level. For babies, who depend on trusted adults to understand and respond to their needs, attunement helps them feel safe, loved and understood. These early experiences play a vital role in supporting good infant mental health and building the foundations for future emotional wellbeing. Loneliness Awareness Week: What Support is AvailableIt was Loneliness Awareness Week between 15-21 June. Loneliness affects wellbeing by increasing stress and lowering mood. It can also raise the risk of mental and physical health problems. Loneliness is not just about being alone, it can be the need for connections not being met. Loneliness can be different for everyone experiencing it. It can often appear as emotional loneliness when someone is lacking a close relationship, social loneliness is when a person lacks a group or community to belong to or it can present as existential loneliness (feeling disconnected even around others). Loneliness is linked to anxiety, low mood, sleep problems, withdrawal from others and physical health risks such as heart disease, weakened immunity and cognitive decline. This online survey takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete The study in brief: About the study - Our researchers are looking into the causes of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) so we can help improve care for people affected by it. Friends and Family Test The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback. Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment. 92.1% of respondents (479 total) thought they were involved in their care and listened to within the Community and Primary Care Division in May 2026. "Words from my child, he really listened and I felt good when leaving, knowing someone is like me but not like me is good."
