Traffic lights near Bayfair roundabout operating from tomorrow morning

A reminder that traffic lights will operating on State Highway 2 Maunganui Road, north of the Bayfair roundabout from tomorrow.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation on the city-bound lanes north of the Bayfair roundabout from early morning Wednesday 12 February 2020.

The temporary signalised crossing will enable pedestrians and cyclists to cross between Bayfair Shopping Centre and Matapihi Road while construction continues in the centre of the road.

Pedestrians and cyclists will use a combination of the traffic lights and the existing underpass, which remains open.

The new temporary layout includes a raised safety platform to slow motorists down. Escorts will be in place to assist people at the crossing points 24/7, in the initial period. The escorts are an additional safety measure to assist users while they become familiar with the changes.

This is a considerable change for all road users and we urge everyone to take extra care while adjusting to the new layout.

The new temporary crossing will be regularly monitored by the project team and a CCTV camera system. The temporary speed limit of 30km/h will remain in place through the area for the safety of pedestrians, road users and our construction workers.

The map below show the changes, and you can also view our short video.
