Sealing on SH1 requires lane reductions and ramp closures

We have completed sealing on the SH1 right-hand lanes and will now start the resurfacing of the middle and then left lanes just north and south of the Waimakariri Bridge.

From Sunday night 1 November for 4 weeks, SH1 traffic near the Waimakariri Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction overnight. To enable this work, on and off-ramps in this area will also need to close:
- Chaneys off-ramp will close day and night
- Tram Road on-ramp will close overnight
- Tram Road off-ramp will close at night for the first two weeks and fully close for the second two weeks.

A 50km/h speed limit will be in place during the work, this will reduce to a 30km/h speed limit when the chip seal surface is new and needs to bed in. Motorcycle riders please be aware of loose gravel.

Please expect delays around the ramp areas during peak hours. Diversions will be in place. This work should not create any significant delay overnight when the work is underway. This work is weather dependent so may take longer than planned.

From Sunday night 1 November, we will be completing paving and landscaping work at the QEII Drive/Innes Road roundabout. Detours will be used, and the Hills Road/QEII Drive intersection will need to close for some of this time.

We will be working nights at the roundabout from Sunday 1 to Thursday 5 November and on Monday night 9 November (9pm to 5am).  The Hills Road/QEII intersection will be closed from 9 to 12 November.

The asphalting work is weather dependent so may take longer than planned.

Reminder - Chaneys On-ramp closed permanently

On Tuesday 27 October the Chaneys On-ramp closed for good.

Closing the Chaneys On-ramp means there is no access to SH1 at this point. If you want to use SH1 from Marshland Road you can access it by either using QEII Drive, Prestons Road, Radcliffe Road or Belfast Road to access Main North Road and then SH1. These roads all have traffic signals, making a right turn onto Main North Road easier. (The Belfast Road signals will be activated in the next few weeks.) You could also continue on Marshland Road and Main North Road to enter SH1 from Ohoka Road.

Cranford Street night work

Work continues between PlaceMakers and the new Cranford Street Roundabout.

To minimise traffic impact, we need to do some of this work at night. This work started on Sunday evening 18 October and will now continue until Thursday 5 November, work will start around 7pm each night.

During this night work traffic will be managed with lane shifts and Stop/GO.

The work may involve digging, milling, truck movements and compacting the ground before asphalting, so nearby residents will hear the noise from the machines and the crew working at night.
