WELCOME TO 2024: EXCITING UPDATES
To The Awesome Members of The Best Club in The World,
I cannot remember where I heard this but it rings so true…… Not sure which one came first Tourism or Skål!!! It’s been a busy start to 2024 and January was an incredibly long year. We are halfway into February with Valentine’s Day come and gone and the Easter Holidays around the corner.
First Cocktail Event Of 2024
We had an incredible start to the year, with our first networking cocktail event at Hyatt Regency Cape Town and it was absolutely amazing.

Past President, Tammy Macintosh from Winnipeg Canada was in town after a cruise with a group on the QM2. We were fortunate that Tammy had a free night to meet up with Myself, Johan – Vice President and Fiona Angelico.
MOZAMBIQUE 🇲🇿
We’ve had the pleasure of hosting Leigh Davis from Mozambique Shoreline Marketing.
Thanks to Denise Lindley from Skål Garden Route for doing the intro and initiating the meet up. It was lovely to get together with Leigh and hopefully this will be the starting blocks for the next Club in Africa.
Thank you to our Cape town committee members and Deputy Director for Africa, Fiona, for taking the time to meet and greet with Leigh.

LAM launches direct flight linking Maputo 🇲🇿 to Cape Town
LAM Mozambique Airlines' inaugural flight from Maputo, Mozambique touched down at the Cape Town International Airport on 12 December 2023. The airline operated the first flight on a Boeing 737-700 but thereafter the route will be serviced by a Bombardier CRJ-900, operating year-round with three flights per week.

KNOW?
Between January and September 2023, two-way passenger numbers between Maputo, Mozambique and Cape Town recorded a 36% growth when compared to the same period in 2019, reaching over 21 000 two-way passengers. Remarkably, this figure surpassed the two-way passenger count for the entirety of 2019, which saw over 21 700 two-way passengers travelling between the two destinations.

& 109th National Assembly

Our Twin Club – Perth is hosting the Skål Australia AGM and 109th National Assembly 15 – 17 March in Perth. We wish them the best for all their celebrations knowing it will be a huge success. The President of Perth, Michael Collins is a dear friend of the Cape Town Club as are the Past Presidents and their members. Our Membre d’Honneur and Past President, Carol Bayne will be attending on behalf of the Cape Town Club.
COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVES
Mobility Scooter Delivered
The Smit Family, long standing members of Skål Cape Town, generously donated a mobility scooter worth around R40 000 to our club. We're excited to announce that this scooter has found a new home at the Occupational Therapy Department of Groote Schuur Hospital, thanks to the Cape Town Club's donation. Rogini Pillay, Assistant Director of Occupational Therapy, gratefully accepted the scooter on behalf of the department.
