Future work

At the end of this year, you’ll see our contractor return to the section of highway between the Lineside Road (SH71) overpass and the Cam River, to carry out scheduled re-sealing work.

This work is likely to be carried out at less busy times during the day or evening.  We’ll alert people to any traffic diversions or changes to the road layout in advance, via electronic message boards in the area and the Waka Kotahi South Island Facebook page.

For any non-urgent queries about work in North Canterbury you can continue to email the project team on safetynorthcanterbury@nzta.govt.nz

You can also encourage any friends, family or workmates to subscribe to updates or find out more about our work in North Canterbury on SH1 online at www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh1-north-canterbury-corridor/

Barrier repairs

If you’ve been driving along this stretch of highway, you may have seen that in some places the barriers have already been hit. Our contractor has repaired these sections, and will repair any others that occur, at night when traffic volumes are lower.

When collisions have taken place and orange cones have been placed in the median, please take care driving past and if you need to report debris on the highway, you can contact us on 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49).

Thank You

Again, we acknowledge the patience and cooperation of drivers and nearby residents over the last nine months while construction was underway between the Cam River and Tram Road.

We have also appreciated the feedback that we’ve received during this time – the information has helped us, and our contractor HEB Construction, to improve work methods for future projects.

Ngā mihi (Kind regards),

The Project Team
