Pest control is bringing great results for bush and wildlife alongside the Huntly route.
The project borders the 650ha Taupiri Scientific Reserve which had been struggling against a tide of goats and possums, while other predators had hit the native bird population.
Three years on the pests are almost gone, the birds are returning and the bush is flourishing. That’s a rata tree in full bloom, pictured above.
The latest project update looks at the pest management plan in detail, and you can also meet the man in charge of it – an avid hunter and conservationist who is also a road-building specialist with the joint venture building this project.
