Emergency works on SH1

Our crew will be working at the Dome summit in an emergency capacity during lockdown. This includes some off-road preparation work on Saturday 21 August.

We will then be closing one lane of SH1 at times between 7am and 3pm, Monday to Wednesday next week 23-25 August, weather permitting.

If you are travelling for essential reasons at those times, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.

We will be operating stop/go traffic control so be alert for our electronic signs saying "ROADWORKS PREPARE TO STOP". There will also be a temporary 30km/h speed limit approaching the works.

These works are focussed on an aging stormwater culvert under the highway. The culvert's walls need reinforcing to ensure the integrity of the roading above.

New number for road users

In order to improve our ability to respond to the community, we have instituted a direct phone line. It is for road users and community members needing to speak to us about urgent issues on or near the sites where we are working.

If you have information our team needs to know, or if you need to speak to us about traffic, roading or construction matters, call or txt 027 291 6154.

The toll-free number (0800 44 44 49) and email address (northlandproject@nzta.govt.nz) are the best ways to contact Waka Kotahi about project-related matters.

Community drop-in session in Wellsford

Armed with maps, information sheets and coffee, the project team held a successful community drop-in session at Wellsford Library on Saturday 31 July.

A steady stream of community members and representatives stopped by to chat, including Councillor Greg Sayers who also gave us a shout out on his Facebook page. We were happy to have the opportunity to talk to our Dome Valley neighbours about their concerns and questions.

If you would like to see those questions (and answers), we've got online versions at the links below. Printed copies are available at the Wellsford Library.

The Library staff were wonderful hosts and we owe them a great deal of thanks for their help on the day.
