Project preserves and documents El Salvador civil war memories

As part of a project aimed at preserving the memories of the Salvadoran Civil War, a Western team, alongside survivors and community members, created a memorial on the site of the 1980 Sumpul massacre to remember the lives lost.

Fourth-year biology student is shaping communities one experience at a time

Born in Nigeria, Tumi Olaoye came to Canada with her family when she was 11. Now in her fourth year of a biology specialization at Western, she has immersed herself in campus life as a leader on both the University Students’ Council and the African Students’ Association.

Breaking new ground on untapped alternative brain imaging technique

Supported by BrainsCAN, the Optical Neuroimaging Research Group is set to break new ground on an alternative brain imaging technique that uses light rather than magnetic fields to image the brain.

A team of Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry researchers is working to improve our understanding of how exposure to cannabis during pregnancy may impact the developing brain of the fetus.

Earlier this year, CBC Quebec recognized her in its Black Changemakers series, featuring people from the province’s Black communities who are giving back, inspiring others and helping to shape the future.

Celebrate the fall term and join your colleagues at the upcoming staff and leader fall learning days:  
The science of belonging (Nov. 2): Rumeet Billan is an award-winning, internationally recognized entrepreneur, learning architect, speaker, author and humanitarian. She will examine what it means to belong at work, the harmful effects of exclusion and the challenges that are faced when trying to create a sense of belonging.
You first: How to change your team from any seat at the table (Nov. 4): Liane Davey is a Western graduate who has worked with Fortune 500 companies from across the globe. Known as the 'teamwork doctor', she is the bestselling author of You First: Inspire Your Team to Grow Up, Get Along, and Get Stuff Done. During her talk learn how you can take steps to help your team get along and be productive.
Registration is open to all staff and leaders.

Cyber safety awareness training  
Western's Cyber Safety Awareness Training module takes approximately 35 minutes to complete and is required training for all students, faculty and staff. Due by Nov. 1.

Take a break with Living Well @ Western
Living Well @ Western provides free wellness and well-being activities. October’s activities include a live music coffee house (with snacks), yoga, wellness walks, Don Wright Faculty of Music concert series, museum tours, team and individual wellness challenges, personal and professional development opportunities, financial wellness workshops and more.
