The Drury Lane building at 232 Great South Road

Update on 232 Great South Road

The demolition and removal of the Drury Lane building above is scheduled to begin on 16 February 2026 after the removal of asbestos is completed this week.  The demolition will take approximately 2 weeks to complete.

The 2-storey building at the northern end of this site (formerly Koko Classics and others) will initially be retained as an option for a construction site office.

The start of construction on the cleared site will depend on the construction programme to be agreed with the contractor once the main construction contract is awarded.  The site will remain fenced off in the meantime.

Parking on Tui Street will remain available for those visiting the Drury Library, Hall, and Rugby Club.

The final bridge piles were installed over the long Waitangi weekend (6-8 February) with the concrete caps to be finished in March.

Main construction works for the project are expected to begin in late March or early April. We’ll update you further once the contract has been awarded and the programme is scheduled.
