Closing Out the Calendar YearIn December, the Co-op's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee examines the many changes that take place within and outside our bodies at the end of the year. How Diminished Sunlight Impacts UsIn the Northern Hemisphere, the earth experiences its most profound loss of sunlight during December. Because our bodies are innately synchronized with the earth’s rotation, December's diminishing light impacts every organ’s behavior. Our bodies respond to this once-a-year loss by recalibrating and redistributing. Orchestrating this massive realignment are circadian rhythms, the body’s internal 24-hour regulatory clock. December marks the body’s annual attunement code. Graphic courtesy of the Cleveland Clinic. —Rosa Lewis This video is an overview of circadian rhythms. Cool News for the Neighborhood
