Click here November 2021 newsletterYour monthly update on all things Inclusion Barnet, as well as local and national goings on which impact the lives of disabled people in Barnet, including people with mental health issues and long term conditions. I’m not sure how November snuck up upon us, but I’m delighted to say that accompanying the seasonal gifts starting to appear in shops across Barnet, is the second edition of our new Inclusion Barnet newsletter. This month we have updates about our forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM), and our User Voice Forums, some brand-new members of IB staff and some insightful thoughts on lived experience from my deputy, Rebecca Sare, in our regular staff interview feature. We very much hope you find it informative, but please do get in touch to tell us your feedback and how we can make these updates as relevant and enjoyable as possible. In the meantime, a huge thank you for your ongoing support of Inclusion Barnet, and I wish you all a mercifully mild and moderately paced month ahead. Best wishes, Caroline Collier Inclusion Barnet newsInclusion Barnet AGM 2021 We're holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) over Zoom again this year. Meet our teamRebecca Sare, Deputy CEO 1. How long have you worked at Inclusion Barnet? It doesn’t feel long, but it’s actually been 4 years! I joined in October 2017 when Barnet Voice for Mental Health joined Inclusion Barnet. I was the only employee at Barnet Voice, so it was pretty lovely to suddenly be surrounded by so many supportive colleagues! 2. What is the main thing you are working on right now? I’ve worked in lots of different roles since I joined Inclusion Barnet, but currently my role is very varied: I’m supporting the delivery of a number of projects and activities, including Touchpoint, communications and operational stuff; I support Caroline in her duties as CEO, including ensuring Inclusion Barnet is always working to improve what we do and how we do it; I’m also leading the development of ‘Inclusion Unlimited’, a non-profit company which will help to support the work of Inclusion Barnet and spread our approach to using lived experience of disability across the UK. 3. How does having lived experience impact your role? I use it in so many different ways! But perhaps the most important one is to stand up and demonstrate to others that it’s okay to own both your strength and vulnerability at the same time; one doesn’t cancel out the other, rather together they can become a hugely powerful tool for supporting others and creating positive social change. Even if I do say so myself! 4. The best thing about working at Inclusion Barnet? It might sound odd, but I think one thing that has made the biggest difference to me is how, at Inclusion Barnet, I know it’s okay to fail. I’ve always been someone who has felt terrified of getting things wrong and letting people down, and this has stopped me from achieving and enjoying so many things. At Inclusion Barnet I know I’m trusted to always do the best I can, but that if I make a mistake or if I’m having a bad day, I will be supported to move forwards, and I will still be valued by my colleagues. I love that about Inclusion Barnet and all my colleagues. 5. Favourite way to spend time when you’re not working? I started jogging again about 6 months into lockdown and I’m currently loving it! I’ve bought loads of scarily loud Lycra and some strangely shaped trainers and I spend most evenings running around my local park scaring all the children and dogs with my determined pink face.
