QEII Drive - resurfacing near Main North Road

From Friday 24 January till Monday 27 January we are resurfacing the westbound lanes on QEII Drive near the Main North Road intersection.  Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane just before the traffic signals and this is likely to increase queueing at busy times

If you are travelling westbound on QEII Drive over this time, please expect delays near the Main North Road intersection. There is a temporary 50km/h speed limit in place during our works and while the gravel remains loose the speed limit will be reduced to 30km/h.

No work will be happening over the weekend, but it is important to keep the traffic management in place while the new surface hardens ready for chip sealing on Monday.

Tram Road / Main North Road night work

From Tuesday 28 January till Wednesday 5 February we will be widening Tram Road and SH1 to allow for new carpool and cycle lanes. We are also signalising two intersections on Tram Road, at Main North Road and at the SH1 on-ramp.  We will be working at night to reduce our impact on traffic.

Traffic at the Tram Road and Main North Road intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction overnight from 7pm to 7am and will be managed with stop/go controls. Please expect delays for up to five minutes. there will also be a temporary 30km/h speed limit in place near the intersection.

Traffic split on QEII Drive

In early February traffic on QEII Drive near the Main North Road intersection will be split to the far left and right sides of the road and work will start on the central median. This is a milestone for our project and a traffic management change but shouldn't cause any major issues for drivers.

Cranford Street update

Construction of the central median is underway in Cranford Street.

It is now no longer possible to drive across or turn right at McFaddens Road, Weston Road or Knowles Street. U-turn bays are being built to allow access to businesses and residents north of McFaddens Road on Cranford Street.

The central median will prevent front on collisions, reduce turning movement at intersections (thereby reducing hold-ups) and stop commuters using suburban streets as rat-runs or shortcuts. While this may mean the people who live in these areas have to drive a little farther to get home, the medians will improve safety and quality of life for people living in these side streets by greatly reducing traffic.

Here is a link to our 'How To' videos - one on medians and one on U-turn bays
