The GIST: College football’s Week 1 served up more surprises than #CelebrityBreakupSummer, and Week 2 promises even more chaos. Here’s to another perfect fall Saturday — whether you’re spending all of tomorrow glued to your couch or losing your voice in the stands.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (0-1) vs. No. 22 Colorado Buffaloes (1-0), 12 p.m. ET (FOX): Nebraska did the most Nebraska thing possible last week: choke. For Colorado, the aforementioned Coach Prime’s roster was a wild experiment before their Week 1 win over then–No. 17 TCU — now, it’s a freight train rolling toward domination. Do you believe?

No. 11 Texas Longhorns (1-0) vs. No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0), 7 p.m. ET (ESPN): Last year, Alabama stole a 20–19 nail-biter at Texas thanks to a last-minute field goal. This time, the Tide is running with an untested quarterback (QB), and the Longhorns are rarin’ for revenge in their make-or-break game of the season. Expect fireworks for College GameDay.

No. 12 Utah Utes (1-0) vs. Baylor Bears (0-1), 12 p.m. ET (ESPN): No Cam Rising? No problem — the Utes dismantled Florida 24–11 last Thursday, even with their star QB on the sidelines. Meanwhile, the Bears suffered (arguably) Week 1’s worst embarrassment, falling 42–31 to Texas State at home. If Rising suits up, Baylor could be in for more humiliation.

Women’s soccer

⚽ Carolina callin’

The GIST: Women’s soccer fans were given much more than they bargained for last night — the two Top-10 matchups were just the beginning. Manicure: ruined.

The Top-10 matchups: Lockdown defense was the name of the game for No. 9 Clemson, who stifled a visiting No. 7 Arkansas squad to earn a 1–0 dub. Goalie Halle Mackiewicz made multiple flashy saves to send the Razorbacks home with a second straight loss.

The Top 25 trouble: Against unranked teams, the Top 25 had a rough night. No. 11 Notre Dame was blanked 1–0 at home by non-conference rival Michigan, and No. 19 USC had no answer for Utah Valley forward Faith Webber, who scored a hat trick to drop the Trojans 3–2 in LA. No. 15 Washington State struggled with a 1–0 home loss to Saint Mary’s (CA), too. Oof.

  • Three other ranked teams also failed to move the needle: No. 8 Santa Clara, No. 13 Georgetown, and No. 18 Virginia came up empty in scoreless draws against Cal, James Madison, and Iowa, respectively. Poll shakeup, loading…
  • One Top 25 team, however, had no trouble at all with their unranked foe. No. 17 Texas eviscerated Stephen F. Austin 7–0, their fourth consecutive game in which they shut out their opponents while scoring five or more goals. Hot damn.

👻 How to avoid spooky season…for free

Source: Verizon

Nightmare scenario: The NFL game clock’s ticking down, your team holds a narrow lead, and they’re about to make a goal-line stand. You’re on the edge of your seat…until spotty service interrupts your streaming like a flag on the play. Scary stuff.

  • The only thing that could possibly be worse? Not watching the game at all, because your team’s out of market. The horror.

The solution: Verizon’s new myPlan cell phone package. The fully customizable plan with the country’s top network also includes NFL Sunday Ticket for free*.

  • That means you’ll be able to watch every single regular-season matchup with reliable coverage, plus extra cash to spend on nachos and your team’s new jerseys.

And if you’re already a Verizon customer, you’re also eligible for free Sunday Ticket when you give your home Internet plan a glow-up or upgrade from your cracked phone screen to a shiny new model. No Sunday scaries here.

Weekend Watching

🏑 Field hockey: No. 15 Princeton Tigers vs. No. 17 Delaware Blue Hens — Today at 5 p.m. ET — FloSports

  • No. 18 Delaware broke into the rankings this week thanks to wins over Old Dominion and Villanova. Now they’re out to prove it wasn’t a fluke against the Tigers tonight and No. 11 Penn State Sunday. Both opponents look vulnerable — maybe Hens can fly?

⚽ Men’s soccer: No. 7 Louisville Cardinals vs. No. 4 Syracuse Orange — Today at 8 p.m. ET — ACCN

  • A Top-10 matchup between two of the best teams in the toughest conference? And they’re both undefeated? Say less, but prep for a defensive battle: Over each squad’s first four matches, Syracuse has allowed only one goal, and Louisville has allowed two.

🏐 Women’s volleyball: Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge — Today and tomorrow at various times — Pac-12 Network

  • This is the season’s toughest invitational, featuring No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 Oregon, No. 10 Minnesota, and No. 15 Ohio State. Searing-hot Oregon has dropped only one set in six games, while recently humbled Minnesota and Ohio State are desperate for big wins.

⚽ Women’s soccer: No. 2 Stanford Cardinal vs. No. 13 Georgetown Hoyas — Sunday at 1 p.m. ET — FloSports or Big East Digital Network

  • The Cardinal are looking damn near unstoppable with three 4–0 wins under their belt — most recently against then–No. 10 Duke. But the Hoyas are on a four-game shutout streak of their own, and only time will tell if they have the bark to stand up to Stanford.
