South of Drury InterchangeLast month we completed all pavement construction works in the central median of the motorway south of Drury Interchange. This week, we started to lay asphalt in this area ahead of shifting the southbound motorway lanes onto it later this month. This traffic shift will create the working space we need on the eastern side of the motorway south of Drury to build new pavement for widening and realigning the motorway eastwards. The picture above shows milling (removing old asphalt) before new asphalt is laid. |

Drury InterchangeAt Drury Interchange, we have been working in all four triangles (gores) of the interchange between the motorway and the on and off-ramps. In August, our focus was on bulk earthworks in the northeastern gore, where we also completed driving sheet piles into the ground to support the southbound motorway lanes. We are now installing 'soil nails' to help support the lanes also, which we will continue working on throughout this month. When we have finished these, we will begin installing stone columns to retain the piles for the new motorway bridge over Great South Road. |

Flanagan RoadAt Flanagan Road, we are laying 1200mm watermain pipes (see above) underground behind the large retaining wall completed earlier this year so we can eventually realign the Waikato pipeline supplying around 30% of Auckland’s water. After we finish laying the new alignment of pipes (for a length of 370m), the watermain will be cutover from the old to the new alignment at the end of this year. |

Bremner Road at Ngaakooroa StreamWith the temporary steel truss bridge over Ngaakooroa Stream completed last month, our team have been installing underground utility services ducts on the sides of Bremner Road and Victoria Street, and on the bridge itself (see pipes at left above). We will continue with underground utility services cutovers (switching from existing to new) and diversions this month as well as building the roading approaches either side of this temporary bridge. |

Slippery Creek / Otuuwairoa StreamOn the southeastern side of Slippery Creek / Otuuwairoa Stream, we have continued installing ground improvement piles to strengthen the ground (see above) and also bridge piles for the new SH1 bridge. This month we will start installing ground improvement piles on the northeastern side of the creek also. Further north, work on a new noisewall has been progressing well. This week we began installing the noisewall piles and will continue this work throughout this month. |
