Proposed HHS Rule Would Redefine Section 1557 on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

A proposed rule from the Biden Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) seeks to remove healthcare providers’ right to determine what is “clinically appropriate” treatment if it runs afoul of a new, expansive definition of “discrimination on the basis of sex.”

In late July, HHS proposed a 97-page rule reinterpreting Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Section 1557 is the portion of the ACA prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability by health programs and activities funded or administered by HHS. Under the new rule, “sex” would be redefined to include sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as pregnancy or related conditions, such as “pregnancy termination,” with critical implications for rights of conscience in healthcare.

NRB 2022 Expo Floor: A Case Study in “Word of Mouth" Marketing

Tory Tredway, a copywriter for Christian and nonprofit markets, shared an article on LinkedIn this week exploring “word of mouth” as a marketing strategy and evaluating the NRB 2022 convention floor as a case study—including a shout-out to NRB’s own event & exhibit sales manager, Carlton Capps!

Tredway writes,

"As I walked into the massive convention hall where 170+ exhibitors had set up their booths in more than 31,000 square feet, I immediately noticed differences in marketing strategies. Some exhibits were huge with large sets of equipment and displays, others were more simple and 'to the point', and many were somewhere in between.

The place was abuzz with excitement. Conversations galore. A networking paradise. Essentially, there was a lot of marketing going on.

A lot of 'word-of-mouth' marketing!

I had identified 40 key exhibitors I wanted to visit during the two days I was able to attend. I began my expedition with anticipation of discovering some valuable insights. I wasn't disappointed . . .

While my gatherings were not ‘scientific' and more subjective than objective, I gained some interesting perspectives into the marketing minds of faith-based businesses and organizations."

Kendrick Brothers’ New Film ‘LifeMark’ Celebrates the Gift of Life

The filmmakers behind faith-based hits "War Room," "Fireproof," and "Overcomer" are teaming up with Kirk Cameron to release their next movie, "LifeMark," on September 9. Inspired by a true story, the Kendrick Brothers’ new film is pro-family, pro-reconciliation, pro-forgiveness, pro-adoption, and pro-life.

"LifeMark" takes audiences on the journey of a teenage boy who is unexpectedly contacted by his birth mother who had chosen adoption over abortion eighteen years prior. While the film’s storyline and Biblical themes are deeply moving, Kendrick says the film also features humor and fun, including action-packed scenes of adventure activities like ATVs, skydiving, and cliff jumping.

EMF Expands On-Air Talent

NRB member Educational Media Foundation (EMF) recently expanded its on-air talent team with the additions of Carlos Aguiar on K-LOVE and Mary O’Brien on Air1.

“Often, when a station adds new air talent, it’s to fill a vacancy after a departure,” said EMF Radio Group program director Mandy Young. “We’re in a fortunate position right now with both K-LOVE and Air1 to be bringing on new talent without having to cut ties with any of our existing jocks – which is great from both a staff and audience perspective.”
