Welcome to the latest Canterbury state highway planned roadworks update.

Our summer road renewals programme is underway, and each week, we’re sharing updates with you to help you plan your journey.

Labour Day Monday 27 October. Moratorium on all non essential work on the state highways from 12 midday on Friday 24 until midnight on Monday 27 October

Christchurch to Picton

SH1 South of Ward 6-24 October 7am and 6pm. Mondays to Saturdays. Expect  stop/go and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit in place 24/7. Expect delays of up to 10-minutes at this site during work hours.

SH1 Waimanagarara just north of School House Road to just south of Postmans Road 6-31 October 6am-6pm.  Road rebuild. Temporary traffic lights will manage lane closures with stop/go. Expect up to 15 minute delays.

SH1 at Koromiko between Para and Speeds Roads 20-24 October 6.30am-6pm. Due to wet weather last week, work will start again on Monday. Various work including patching, road sweeping and line marking. Expect stop/go, a reduced speed limit and short delays.

SH1 Wairau Road between Dorset and Kent Streets, Picton. Nightworks 6pm-6am. Resurfacing work. Expect stop/go and a 30km/h temporary speed limit. Read our traffic bulletin for more information.

 

 

SH1 Christchurch to Dunedin

SH76 Christchurch Southern Motorway: 20 October. Night works 6pm-6am. Asphalt resealing westbound, towards Rolleston, on a 600m section of the motorway between Wrights Road and Curletts Road off ramp. One lane closed and a 30km/h temporary speed limit.

SH76 Christchurch Southern Motorway: 21 October. Barrington Street onramp CLOSED 10pm-6am with a detour to access SH76.  Apshalt resealing on a 700m section westbound, towards Rolleston. Expect one lane closure 8pm-6am and a 30km/h temporary speed limit.

SH76 Christchurch Southern Motorway: 22 October. Curletts Road off-ramp CLOSED 10pm-6am with detour to access Curletts Road.  Asphalt resealing on a section of SH76 between Barrington Street and Curletts Road. Expect one lane westbound, towards Rolleston, closure from 8pm-6am and a 30km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH76 Christchurch Southern Motorway. 29 October-18 December Nightworks 7pm-5am. Keep an eye out for road workers on the shoulder as 4.6km of barrier and maintenance bays are being added to the motorway between Wrights Road and Halswell Junction Road. No delays expected.

SH1 Rolleston at Dunns Crossing Road. 20-24 October 9am-3pm. Tree felling next to the highway. Expect a 30km/h temporary speed limit, and short closures in both directions while trees are felled. 

SH1 Temuka. 13-31 October 7am-5pm weekdays. Kerb and channel and footpath repairs. Expect stages of stop/go with delays of up to 15 minutes and a 30km/h temporary speed limit.

SH1 Timaru Waimataitai. 9 September-31 October 7am-6pm. Watermain renewal. Expect lane shifts and 30km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH1 Timaru close to the intersection of SH1 and Grants Road. Taitarakihi culvert 9 September-31 October.  Drainage works. 30km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH1 Ealing, north of Rangitata Bridge. 18-31 October. Two lanes open and 50km/h temporary speed limit. Withells/Ealing Road intersection with SH1 is closed.

SH1 south of Pukeuri 13 October-19 December 6am-4pm. Road rebuild. Expect stop/go, lane shifts and a 30km/h temporary speed limit.

SH1 Waireka Creek Bridge at Alma near Oamaru. 20-24 October 6am-7pm. Bridge repairs. Expect short delays.

SH1 at Kakaho Creek near Hampden. 20-24 October 6am-7pm. Earthworks and drainage work in preparation for a road rebuild. Expect short delays.

SH1 Waitaki Bridge to Dunedin. 20-24 October 6am-7pm. Road surface repairs at various locations along this route.
Expect short delays. 

 

 

Key state highways across the Canterbury Region

SH7 one km north of the Hurunui River. 29 September-6 November . Road rebuild. Stop/go. Expect up to 15 minute delays.

SH7 Red Post intersection (intersection of SH7 and Rotherham Street) 20 October-4 November. Weekdays 6am-6pm. Chip seal site. Expect stop/go and a 30km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH7 Leslie Hills Road, Bay of Biscay 21 October. 6am-6pm Chip seal site. Expect stop/go and a 30km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH7 East Handyside 22 October. 6am-6pm. Expect stop/go and a 30km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH8 Pleasant Point to Twizel. 7am-6pm. Surface maintenance work. Expect stop/go and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit. 

SH75 Halswell Road (between Dunbars Road and Curletts Road). Work continues on the improvements project particularly between Augustine Drive/Monsaraz Boulevard and Curletts Road. Please follow signage and the 30km/h speed limit through the work area.

SH77 Ashburton to Methven 15-21 October. Night work. 8.30pm-5pm. Watercutting (surface repairs) at various locations. Stop/go and temporary speed limit. Expect short delays.

SH82 various locations Waimate to Ikawai. Until 31 October. Nightworks 8.30pm-6am Pavement and resurfacing repairs. Expect stop/go and 30km/h temporary speed limits.

SH82 Kurow and Waimate. 20-31 October 8am-5pm weekdays. Road and resurfacing repair. Expect stop/go and 30km/h temporary speed limits.

SH85 Meadowbank to Glenpark. 15 September-19 December 6am-7pm. Rehabilitation work across various locations. Expect stop/go and temporary speed limits.

 

 

SH1 between SH71 Lineside Road and Williams Street night work started 13 October for six nights 9pm-5am

Work continues on pavement testing investigations.

TThe southbound lane will be closed overnight on 16,17 & 18 October from Cam River to SH71 Lineside Road before moving to the SH1/Williams Street intersection on 21 October.

Detours will be in place via Smith Street and Williams Street. See map below.

Work will begin on the northbound lane for approximately three nights, then switch to the southbound lane for approximately three nights.

Access to Pineacres Restaurant and Bar will be available throughout the works.

Please be aware that there may be other less disruptive state highway works not listed in this newsletter. Work is often weather dependant and can be postponed and rescheduled.
