Get Your Voice Heard: The Conversation
The Conversation is a unique digital journalism platform designed to boost the visibility of Canada's academics and researchers. If you are a doctoral candidate, you are welcome to contribute. If you are a master's student, you can co-author articles with a faculty member. Editors will help coach you through the writing process. Most recently, Carleton’s James Deaville published an article in The Conversation on the musical score of the movie ‘Poor Things.’ If you are interested in writing for the Conversation, sample ideas can be found here. If you have any questions, please contact Steven Reid.

Carleton Central opens for Summer 2024 Term registration for Carleton University degree students (graduate and undergraduate).

March 29, 2024
Statutory holiday. University closed.

April 1, 2024

  • Last day for receipt of applications from potential spring (June) graduates.

  • Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis, in examinable form to the department.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition!

The 3MT at Carleton is a competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. Competition will be held on Thursday, March 28 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Richcraft Hall second floor conference rooms.

Participants will compete for prizes! First place: $1,000, Second place: $500, Third place: $250 “People’s Choice” prize: $150.

The Carleton Ravens women's Nordic Ski team has won the 2024 Women's National Nordic Championships!
In a competition shortened to three events due to warm weather, the Ravens soared to the top of the national stage capturing three individual medals. MASc in Sustainable Energy student Maggie McClure got the 8th spot in the 1.3 km sprint!

Tri-Agency Doctoral Award Annual Progress Report
Any PhD student who holds a tri-council multi-year award must fill out an annual progress report in order to receive the next three terms of their award. Reports should be submitted directly to jenna.mcconnell@carleton.ca 
for processing. The timing of the report is based on the start date of your award:

April 1 – May anniversaries
July 1 – September anniversaries
December 1 – January anniversaries

Data Science at Carleton: Researchers Use Big Data to Address Real-World Issues

Data science is like detective work for information. It uses scientific methods to collect, organize, and analyze data, uncovering useful patterns and insights. As a national hub of data sciences, Carleton University is deeply engaged in data research. With more than 170 data researchers, across five faculties and 26 departments, Carleton is addressing real-world issues including social movements, accessibility, finance, human behavior, and health and wellness.

Paul Menton Centre Graduate Writing Group 

The Graduate Student Writing Group is for any graduate student working on an independent project (seminar or conference paper, grant proposal, journal article, thesis, manuscript, etc). The group provides a space for accountability for projects without traditional deadlines and the chance for students to set tangible writing goals for the session and for the upcoming week.

 

Writing Support by CSAS

Join the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) this Winter Term 2024 for their Academic Writing for English Language Learners sessions on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pick and choose the session that works for you or join all of them! 

Final session for this academic term will take place on March 27 and will review common preposition combinations. Sessions are available hybrid: in person at 402 MacOdrum Library and on MS Teams.

GSA is here for you to provide peer support or conversations about finding resources on and off campus and talking about everyday stresses. We welcome you to come to 600 Nideyinàn on Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., but please reach out to peersupport@gsacarleton.ca if those times do not work for you.

GSA Carleton Study Sessions!
Come to study sessions at the GSA Lounge at 600 Nideyinàn every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can study or work on whatever you like in a welcoming environment.
