Events This WeekThursday 14th September 4.30pm - Whakatāne Events Catch Up Do you run events in Whakatāne? We are holding our latest Events Catch Up at the Whakatāne isite featuring special guest Vicki Semple (former tournament director of the AIMS Games) and Events Marketing 101 workshop on how we can assist with marketing and promotions for your events. Please RSVP to kristen.davies@whakatane.govt.nz Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, or Māori Language Week, is an annual campaign led by Te Taura Whiri promoting te reo as New Zealand’s language and a language for all New Zealanders. Every year we encourage whānau from across Aotearoa, New Zealand, including organisations, schools, workplaces and homes, to give te reo Māori a go. 5th-15th September - Kupu Tahi - Share your favourite kupu and what it means to you in a short video and tag @whakatanelibrary on Facebook or @whakatane.libraries on Instagram. We’ll create a montage of the community’s favourite kupu and share this on screen at the library during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori for everyone to enjoy and learn from. 15th September 12.30pm - Flashmob Waiata - Cap off Te Wiki o te Reo Māori by coming together to share a waiata written in celebration of this beautiful taonga. Saturday 16th September 10am-3pm - Mahi Kai Fishing Competition This event revolves around the rangatahi in Whakatāne and its surroundings, providing them with an opportunity to interact with other children, have a voice, be heard, and, above all, have an enjoyable time while creating new memories. Additionally, it serves as a chance for the community to come together. The day will feature a sausage sizzle, various activities, and lots of spot prizes. Participation in this event requires a $10 entry fee per person. Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th September 2pm - The Edgecumbe Choir presents J. S. Bach - Magnificat in D, BWV 243 & F. J. Haydn - Mass in G Major (The St. Nicholas Mass) Tickets available at the door or from 'The Good Life' $30 Adult, $25 Groups of 6+, $5 Child Saturday 16th September 7.30pm - Eve Kelly Live Eve Kelly is super excited to finally be bringing her original music to her hometown and is blessed to be backed by some of NZ's best musicians! Eve Kelly and her incredibly talented band from Auckland bring high energy, good vibes and good tunes for the young and old souls out there! Saturday 15th September 9.30-11am - Coast Care Planting Day - Maraetōtara Reserve, Ōhope Planting events are great for all-ages and abilities and everyone can go at their own pace. If you’re keen to bring along children, please ensure you are prepared to help them. The event is short enough for children to enjoy plus it’s free! Monday 18th September 6.30pm - Kingsley Scout Group - Movie Night Fundraiser Enjoy a night out at the movies to watch the latest sequel of the endearing and feel-good story that is My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3! This fundraiser is to benefit the Kingsley Scouts as we raise money for our youth going to the 23rd Aotearoa Scout Jamboree 2023-2024 @ Mystery Creek, Hamilton! Wednesday 20th September 6.30pm - Gee Quiz with LJ at The Comm Quiz Night at The Comm with LJ! This quiz is not your ordinary quiz - it’s a Gee Quiz! Get ready for a whole different quiz experience that will challenge your knowledge and keep you entertained all evening. It’s absolutely free to enter but you must book a table! Grab your friends and form teams of 6 to put your heads together and compete for glory and a bar tab.
