The Centre for Ageing Better's age-positive image library

We're a big fan of The Centre for Ageing Better's age-positive image library, with it a focus on changing the visual image of older people, therefore we were delighted to see that the Centre for Ageing Better has joined up with Get Yourself Active at Disability Rights UK, to launch a new project called 'Picture Yourself Active', showing active older and/or disabled people. The images also reinforce that not all disabilities are visible, by including a range of experiences that are often not recognised within society.

The photos can be downloaded and used for free across websites, presentations and social media.

We hope that you can use these photos to help us challenge conceptions and shift the narrative from pity to empowerment. On their site you will also find tips on capturing your own disability- and age-friendly photos.

Rules on eligibility for free lateral flow and PCR tests announced

On Friday 1st April, free lateral flow and PCR tests were withdrawn from access to the general public in England as part of the government's Living with COVID strategy. Those wanting to continue testing will need to purchase tests.

Free tests will still be available for:

  • Patients in hospital, where a PCR test is required for their care
  • People who are eligible for community COVID-19 drug treatments because they are at higher risk of getting seriously ill if they become infected. People in this group will be contacted directly and sent lateral flow tests to keep at home for use if they have symptoms, as well as being told how to reorder tests
  • Care home residents
  • People working in some high-risk settings, including care homes and prisons. These staff will be able to test regularly, without symptoms
  • People being discharged from hospital into care homes, hospices and refuges.

Anyone testing positive, either from a free or paid-for test, will still be asked to isolate for 5 days.
