Come Watch Graduate Studies' Annual Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Contest on March 25!
Carleton's 3MT Contest is on and for details visit our 3MT page. The Qualifying Rounds will take place on Friday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The 3MT Finals will take place on Wednesday, March 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Carleton’s STSA Tax Clinic is Open for Students!
The Sprott Tax Students’ Association (STSA) is holding their annual tax clinic for all students. To use their free services, you must first complete the client intake form. Shortly after completion of the form, you will be contacted with details of your appointment and what to bring. The tax clinic will be held on campus from March 23 to March 28. Questions? by logging into Carleton360). Registration for the summer session begins March 19 for graduate students.

Nominate a Teaching Assistant (TA) for a 2025-26 Outstanding TA Award
If you worked with a great Teaching Assistant in the fall, consider acknowledging their hard work by
nominating them for an Outstanding TA Award. Winners will receive a certificate of recognition and $250. Any TAs who worked in the spring/summer 2025, fall 2025 or winter 2026 terms are eligible.

Last day to withdraw from late winter term courses with a full fee adjustment.

March 15

  • Last day for academic withdrawal from full winter, late winter, and fall/winter courses.
  • Last day to request Formal Examination Accommodations for April full winter, late winter, and fall/winter final examinations from the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities. 

March 19
Carleton Central opens for Summer Term registration for graduate students.

April 1

  • Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis, in examinable form to the department.
  • Last day for receipt of applications from potential spring (June) graduates.

Graduate Students' Association (GSA Carleton)

GSA Carleton is hosting the following events open to and intended for the entire graduate student community, welcoming students from all programs, backgrounds, and cultural communities:

  • Ramadan Food Distribution on March 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (food pickup available starting at 3 p.m.) in the GSA Lounge located at 600 Nideyinàn. In recognition of Ramadan, the GSA will provide prepared meals for graduate students to pick up and take with them, supporting those observing the month while fostering an inclusive campus environment.
  • Nowruz Celebration on March 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mike's Place. The GSA will host a Nowruz celebration to mark the Persian New Year, offering students an opportunity to experience and celebrate one of the world’s oldest cultural traditions together.
  • End of Year Celebration on April 16 in the GSA Lounge located at 600 Nideyinàn. This event will celebrate the conclusion of the academic year, recognize departing student leaders, and welcome incoming members while strengthening connections within the graduate student community.

Juristalks: Smuggling Law: Unsettled Sovereignties in Turkey’s Kurdish Borderlands

Please join the Department of Law and Legal Studies for their Juristalks event featuring University of Toronto Anthropology Prof. Firat Bozçali.

This in-person event will be held on March 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at D492 Loeb Building.

The Kurdish-populated Wan/Van Province is a major smuggling hub between Turkey and Iran. Kurdish smugglers cross this 180-mile-long land border, transporting everyday consumer goods—fuel, tobacco, sugar, and tea—as well as legally banned items. In Smuggling Law, Fırat Bozçali attends to this terrain and highlights the criminal court as a key arena where borders and claims of sovereignty are simultaneously remade and disrupted.

Michael Bell Annual Lecture: Israel’s Zero Sum Endgame for Palestinians – Can Middle Powers Make a Difference?

The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs presents the Michael Bell Annual Lecture on the Middle East, held in honour of the late Professor Michael Bell.

This in-person event will be held on March 11 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 270-274 Teraanga Commons.

This year’s speaker is Daniel Levy, President of the U.S./Middle East Project (USMEP) and a former advisor in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office who participated in Israeli–Palestinian peace negotiations. Levy brings decades of policy and diplomatic experience to this timely discussion.

Job Opportunity: Anti-Black Racism Education Program Coordinator

Carleton's Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities is looking to hire a graduate student to facilitate its Anti-Black Racism Education Program. The coordinator will lead the delivery of workshops and presentations to students, staff and faculty. The goal of the program is to increase awareness of anti-Black racism and build skills to mitigate its impact on Carleton community members.

In addition to facilitating workshops, the coordinator will be responsible for expanding the program and developing a comprehensive collection of educational resources and materials. Some nominal and related administrative services will also be provided as part of this function.

Qualifications:

  • Current Carleton graduate student
  • Strong knowledge of anti-Black racism and critical race theory and its application in professional development
  • Experience working with human rights, equity and inclusion issues – particularly work within African, Black and Caribbean communities
  • Passionate about contributing to positive social change and a strong commitment to anti-oppression and anti-racism
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Organized, collaborative, and good interpersonal skills
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Able to communicate key concepts in a clear, accessible, and inclusive manner
  • Knowledge in adult learning methodologies
  • Ability to work within a team as well as individually

Pay: $30 an hour – between 15 to 20 hours per month

Start date: April 2026

No Day Wasted: A Film Screening and Panel Discussion on Music, Social Justice, and Community Partnership

Is music a human right? Join us for a free screening and panel discussion of the documentary No Day Wasted, on March 8, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre.

For over 15 years, students in Jesse Stewart’s Music and Social Justice course have participated in transformative community collaborations. Jesse will facilitate discussion with filmmaker Hasi Eldib, students, and members of TCE which supports adults with disabilities.

Research Fellowships in the Indo-Pacific

For students with research on the Indo-Pacific region or interested in visiting an Indo-Pacific country for research: Carleton International has opened a call for applications for research fellowships at institutions in the Indo-Pacific region.

Graduate students from any discipline are invited to apply. Placements in several specialized fields and research areas are also offered. Successful candidates will receive $10,000 for travel and living expenses.

Funded Research Visits to Uskudar University

Carleton International has opened a call for applications for a funded research visit to Uskudar University in Türkiye.

This opportunity is open to students at any level and in any discipline that corresponds to programs available at Uskudar. Carleton Researcher Wins Polanyi Prize in Chemistry

Carleton University chemistry researcher Kate Marczenko has been awarded the prestigious John Charles Polanyi Prize for her groundbreaking research in advanced functional materials and crystalline systems.

Marczenko is one of five early-career researchers in Ontario to receive the Polanyi Prize this year.
