He Rau Timotimo Kōrero No.18Taite 25 Mei 2023Helping Kōhanga Reo Whānau Enjoy the benefits of Pay Parity Despite several challenges in the lead up to the rollout of Pay Parity in March, we now have nearly 900 Kaimahi being paid every week through the scheme. Many of these Kaimahi are seeing significant increases in their pay, with our Tohu Whakapakari holders seeing very large increases in their pay. We are now focused on assisting our remaining Whānau and Kaimahi to experience these benefits. We have learnt many lessons over the past several months that we hope will ensure that the process will go more smoothly for those Kaimahi and Whānau who come into the scheme in July. The timeframes in the lead up to March were already very tight, alongside a very full calendar within Māoridom from Waka Ama Nationals, Te Matatini and Waitangi celebrations and several severe weather events that had a huge impact on our people. This meant that some things were rushed, and mistakes were made, and we are working hard to avoid these going forward. One of the key challenges that the Trust is balancing throughout this process is preserving Whānau decision-making and accountability according to Ngā Pou e Whā while providing the right level of support to Whānau to ensure they can receive the full benefits of Pay Parity. As we roll out the full functionality of the Smartly system and as Whānau become more familiar with the system we are confident that Whānau will be increasingly self-sustaining within the system. The pleasing thing is that despite these challenges, for those who are in the new Payroll system they are getting paid every week. We now have our Kaiwhakarite ā rohe alongside our Whānau to ensure they have taken all the critical steps to be in the scheme for July. These roles are there to specifically support Whānau through Pay Parity. This includes being fully onboarded into the Smartly system, have signed the opt-in form with Whānau minutes, and Kaimahi contracts signed etc. These will all need to be completed by 31 May which aligns with when our data for Kaupapa funding is also due.
