Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCFSE Environmental NetworkThursday 17 February, 10.30 - 12noon
If you've already been to a Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive an invite and zoom link for our 12th on 17 February. If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative networking sessions for those working in the Barnet Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference. This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding
opportunities. At February's meeting we will be joined by Sarah Fecunda, Member Pioneer from the Co-op who will be updating us on Co-op's envrionmental work and funding and at 17 March meeting Cara Elkins who is leading on Barnet Council’s sustainability strategy, will be joining us. If you have any topics you would like to raise/discuss at future meetings, do let Ellen know. FOR PAST E-NEWSLETTERS

Listen and Watch...
You can listen to back episodes of 39 Ways to Save the Planet, BBC Radio Four's programme created in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society, presenting ideas to relieve the stress that climate change is exerting on the planet. Help charities further their mission by
voting in the #CharityFilm Awards. It only takes a few seconds to vote. Here's the environmental category but there are plenty more.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.
The second best time is now.”– Chinese Proverb
Updates on two Tree Planting events in Barnet... As a practical demonstration of Barnet Society's commitment to the environment, in 2022 they want to plant 180 saplings on Barnet Hill. If you could spare a couple of hours over the next few weeks, your help would be most welcome. No previous horticultural skill is needed – just ability to wield a spade and bend down! They intend to begin during week of 17 January, the start of Tu B'Shvat, the Jewish New Year of the Tree, and to plant in stages over January and February - subject to Covid restrictions and the weather, of course. Dates and times can be arranged to suit you. From last year's experience, planting can be done safely in small socially distanced groups. More information and if you want to get involved email Robin. We can now confirm that the Tiny Forest near Henlys Corner will be planted on Thursday, February 24th! The morning session (from around 1000-1300) will be dedicated to school groups. The afternoon session (from around 1300 until 1700 or when we finish planting) will be for
everyone else. It would help the organisers if you could give them an indication of whether you can take part and what time you'll be there. It will probably get muddy so please bring appropriate clothing and shoes. If you can, bring your own gloves as well. Earthwatch will provide all other things. And remember that the Tiny Forest will need lots of love and care for years beyond planting, so even if you can't make the 24th there will be plenty of ways to get involved. More details
here or email Daniel or Paul.
