Completed improvements approach 7.5km
Roading crews are nearing the completion of almost 7.5km of flexible median barriers and wide centreline on SH3 between New Plymouth and Hāwera.
As shown in green on the map below, six locations have been completed, with a further site just north of Egmont Village (shown in orange) to be fitted with median barriers by the end of July.
In the coming months, crews will resume work on the 3.3km section of highway between Junction St and Burgess Hill, to the south of New Plymouth.
Construction of a roundabout at the Mangorei Road intersection is scheduled to begin in late July. In October work will resume on an intersection speed zone at Junction St, along with the creation of a wide centreline to accommodate the potential installation of median barriers.
The design of a possible roundabout at Egmont Village is progressing well, with the latest step being ground investigations on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 June, from 7am to 5pm.
While this work takes place just north of the village, traffic will be moved to the southbound lane, with a contraflow system in place over approximately 100 metres, allowing continuous flow in both directions.
Construction of this roundabout is subject to funding, land availability and consenting.
