New Healthway Chair

Healthway and Lotterywest have welcomed a new Chair Professor Peter Klinken AC (pictured above), who will serve across both organisations following alignment of Lotterywest and Healthway Boards earlier this year. The announcement provides new opportunities for Healthway and Lotterywest to advance their work together in building a better and healthier Western Australia. Professor Peter Klinken AC assumed his role this month. Find out more

New Strategic Plan

Healthway's new strategic plan is a five-year vision for a healthy and active Western Australia. Active Healthy People: 2018-2023 builds on Healthway's proud history of funding health promotion programs and campaigns in the community, as well as health promotion research. It demonstrates Healthway's commitment to creating a lasting community impact, focusing on those with the greatest needs to achieve the best possible health outcomes for the WA community. Targeted active grants

Western Australian community and sporting organisations are encouraged to apply and share in $1 million in funding from Healthway and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Targeted Participation Program. Applications are open for projects in the $1,000-$15,000 and $15,001-$50,000 grant categories. Food vendors sweet success

The Dardanup Bull & Barrel Festival sponsored by Healthway, promoting the LiveLighter message was held on the sixth October and attracted approximately 15,000 people to the event. Incorporating Healthway strategies, the festival promoted healthy food and drink options to families attending the South-west event. The food vendors involved in adopting these strategies reported a 50% increase in the sale of water and a 45% decrease in the sale of sugary drinks. Find out more

Grant making music

Promoting the Act-Belong-Commit health message, the Black Rock Band (pictured) recently toured communities in Western Australia as part of Sand Tracks 2018. The annual music tour is part of a comprehensive program presented by Country Arts WA and Healthway that uses music to talk about being mentally and culturally strong. Find out more

New e-cigarette research

Healthway-funded research recently published in the Health Promotion Journal of Australia concluded that young Australian males were most vulnerable to using e-cigarettes, with the most common reason for their use among smokers and non-smokers of traditional cigarettes being enjoyment. The research was co-authored by researchers from Curtin University, Cancer Council Western Australia, and the University of Western Australia. Find out more.   

Apply for a Healthway grant

Applications are now open for annual programs starting the first of July 2019. Apply for Over $50,000 Sport, Arts and Community Events  grants by 12 noon, 31 January 2019. Apply for $5,000 – $50,000 Sport, Arts and Community Event Sponsorship grants by 12 noon, 27 February.
