Panther Golf Starts the Fall with a Pair of Tournament Wins
What a weekend for Middlebury Golf!
Both Panther golf teams opened their fall seasons with tournament victories last weekend, with the Middlebury men winning the Duke Nelson Invitational here at Ralph Myhre and the Middlebury women capturing the Polar Bear Shootout at Bowdoin.
The men put together a two-day team score of 594 to finish atop the 20-team field at the 42nd Annual Duke Nelson Invitational, edging Skidmore by three strokes. First-year Jack Mark led the Panthers in his collegiate debut, finishing third overall with rounds of 72 and 73.
The victory was especially sweet on home turf, marking the Panthers’ first Duke Nelson title since 2013.
Meanwhile, the nationally ranked Middlebury women were putting together an impressive weekend of their own in Maine. The Panthers won the 14-team Polar Bear Shootout with a two-day score of 588, finishing five strokes ahead of host Bowdoin and seven ahead of Amherst.
Sophomore Season Wei led the way, shooting under par in both rounds and finishing at 143 to share medalist honors. First-year Lucy Wang tied for seventh after firing a two-under 71 on Sunday, while Teegan Duffy and Julia Hua also turned in strong performances.
Now the Panther Women Come Home
After winning on the road, the women return to Ralph Myhre Golf Course this Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, to host the George Phinney Classic.
It’s another great weekend of collegiate golf at Ralph Myhre and an opportunity to see the Panthers compete on their home course while carrying some serious momentum into the weekend.
Saturday’s opening round gets underway at 12:30 p.m.
If you’re around Ralph Myhre this weekend, come out and catch some of the action, support the Panthers, and help us welcome the visiting teams, families and fans to Middlebury.
Congratulations to both Panther teams on an outstanding opening weekend—and good luck to the women as they tee it up at home this weekend. Go Panthers!
