Big Changes to the Carleton Bookstore
The campus bookstore is now being managed directly by Campus Services, marking an exciting new chapter at Carleton. The Bookstore is being renamed to The Campus Store to reflect its expanded offerings beyond textbooks. The Campus Store will reopen on May 5 and undergo renovations throughout the summer 2025 term in preparation for the fall 2025 term. The team is working hard to get the new website up and running, but it may not be ready by the start of the summer term.

MacOdrum Library: Carleton Joins Scholaris

Carleton University Institutional Repository has migrated to Scholaris. This transition marks a significant step in enhancing the accessibility and discoverability of Carleton research. All content hosted on our current repository platform, including our collection of Carleton dissertations and scholarly publications, is now available.

What’s New?
The Scholaris platform has more options for arranging content into communities and collections, providing new ways to gather and showcase content. Searching and browsing options will support discovery across all content as well as focused browsing within collections. The base URL for the repository has changed from repository.library.carleton.ca to carleton.scholaris.ca.

What’s Staying the Same?
All Carleton University Institutional Repository collections, content, and services remain the same. Links to the former repository has been redirected to collections and content on the new site. DOIs that link to publications hosted in the repository have also been updated to point to the content on the new platform. No action is needed by content owners.

For more information about Scholaris and options for publishing your research in open access, please contact schol-coms@cunet.carleton.ca.

Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism: Dinner in the Street 2025

Master of Architecture students celebrated their theses defenses on April 25 at the school’s traditional Dinner in the Street, which honours those graduating from the professional program.

About 70 people attended the event at the Architecture Building, including 39 thesis students plus faculty, staff, visiting reviewers, and donors. The hard-earned celebration capped off three days of thesis presentations, which included installations, drawings, models, texts, photography, maps, textiles, sound, video, and more on a wide range of themes.

“There's been some truly phenomenal work on the walls over the past three days,” said Director Anne Bordeleau.

“Completing a thesis here is no small feat,” added Associate Professor Zachary Colbert, the thesis coordinator. “You've met that challenge with tenacity, imagination, and heart. It's been a true privilege to witness your transformation."

PhD Student Wins 2025 Student EDI Research Award

Diksha Kale is a PhD candidate in the Department of Law and Legal Studies and has been awarded a Student EDI Research Award which will support a summer research project related to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

She will be conducting her research project titled, Leaving Home: Using Interactive Fiction to Explore Student Attitudes towards Immigration, under the supervision of Assistant Prof. Stacy Douglas. Diksha is developing an interactive fiction story in which users take on the role of an immigrant leaving their home country to pursue studies abroad. When reading the interactive fiction story, users will go through different scenarios related to immigration and get to make important choices throughout the playthrough that impact the storyline. Participants in the study will engage with the story and then complete surveys designed to assess how the narrative’s situations and themes influence their perceptions of international students and immigration.

Diksha’s work explores the potential of interactive fiction as a tool for education and social change. She aims to demonstrate how digital storytelling can foster empathy, challenge racist and xenophobic attitudes and address broader social issues. By encouraging readers to inhabit different perspectives, her research seeks to counter harmful narratives and promote a greater understanding of marginalized communities.

Established in 2021, the Student EDI Research Awards respond to a specific recommendation in Carleton's EDI Action Plan and is a landmark recognition for EDI scholarship in Ontario higher education. The award is funded by the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and administered by the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities. Student recipients present their research to the Carleton community during the Fall term.
