President's Message

Renee Rucinsky, DVM, DABVP (Feline), President

Welcome to 2024 - so far there’s blizzards and floods, infectious respiratory diseases (for multiple species), and oh right…it’s an election year. Sometimes hibernation sounds really good.

The first deadline of credentials season is upon us, and to those of you who have been helping applicants with their cases, thank you! And thanks in advance to the credentials teams getting ready to review everything.

Join me for the next Pints with the President at the end of this month. We’ll get together at 8 pm EST on Tuesday, January 30. I’ll share some other ABVP news, and let’s chat about what’s going on in our own corners of the veterinary world.

See you soon!

Review Your Leadership

ABVP's Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is tasked with a variety of functions. One is to review current volunteers and determine strengths and weaknesses so that we can help our volunteers be better at their jobs.

Responses are anonymous and the surveys will close January 26, 2024.

Depending on your position you may get multiple copies of these surveys (e.g., your Committee Chair may send you the same link as in this newsletter). Please fill out the survey ONCE for each position you hold.

Mentors Needed

The mentorship committee is asking for additional Diplomates to serve as mentors for new applicants in the credentialing process. Mentors may set their own cadence of communication and there is no expectation of skills mentorship. Please email mentorship@abvp.com if interested in this rewarding experience.

Attention AAHA Certified Hospitals

If you are a AAHA accredited hospital, AAHA also has the option for your Hospital to be accredited as an "AAHA Specialty Practice". This accreditation is available for the following ABVP RVSs: Avian, Canine and Feline, Exotic Companion Mammal, Feline, and Reptile and Amphibian. It does cost more to have this status. More details are at:

https://www.aaha.org/membership/organizational/specialty-accreditation/

This can be one more thing to differentiate your practice from others.
