Pito-One to Melling Cycleway Update

We are continuing to work on the Pito-One (Petone) to Melling to section of Te Ara Tupua, part of the future walking and cycling route between Wellington and Lower Hutt.

Work will be starting this month on the shared path through Petone Station park and ride. To make space for the new path, we need to remove some car spaces from the existing parking area closest to the station platforms.

We’ll also change the layout of that parking area. To replace the spaces that will be lost, we have built a new park and ride area on the other side of the McKenzie Avenue overbridge. This will be open before we make any changes to the existing parking area.

The new parking area replaces all the spaces that will be lost from the existing park and ride and adds 31 new spaces – meaning more spaces in total when our work is finished.

A small stretch of the new shared path will be opened so that it's possible to walk safely between the new parking area and the station platforms. Watch out for these changes at the end of this month. Updates will also be shared via Metlink.

We will be working in the station and park and ride area from approximately June to December this year.

We acknowledge that construction work like this can be disruptive. Thank you for your patience while we work to provide better walking and cycling routes for our region.
