WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: NRB Members Respond to Catastrophic Impact of Hurricane Ian in FloridaHurricane Ian wreaked havoc in Central Florida overnight, leaving millions of Florida residents without power on Thursday morning. As of this writing, significant fatalities have been reported, and water rescues are underway. Catastrophic flooding, strong winds, and torrential downpours continue in the wake of the storm, with the full extent of property damage yet to be seen. “A number of our members are broadcasting and operating their ministries in the area affected by Hurricane Ian, and we are keeping them, and all those in the path of this storm, in prayer as the storm develops,” NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller said. “We also have member organizations who are currently on the ground being the hands and feet of Jesus—bringing support and meeting the needs of the community throughout this emergency.” “American Music Fairness Act” Companion Bill Introduced in the SenateJust days after H.Con.Res.33, “Supporting the Local Radio Freedom Act” (LRFA), crossed the majority threshold of support in the House of Representatives, U.S. Senators Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) introduced on September 22 a Senate companion bill to the American Music Fairness Act (AMFA), which would impose a new performance tax on broadcasters. In Memoriam: Dan BusbyLongtime Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) leader and former president, Dan Busby, who served the ECFA for more than 30 years, went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2022, at age 81. Dan leaves behind a legacy as an expert on nonprofit tax and finance issues, a prolific author, a passionate advocate for ECFA and its members, as well as a kind and faithful leader. Busby led the organization for 12 years as ECFA president, and under his leadership, the ECFA’s membership nearly doubled in size and significantly expanded the impact on both accredited members and the greater Christian community. “I was saddened to hear of the passing of my friend Dan Busby from this life, but what a joy to know that he was greeted by his Lord and Savior with those welcoming words, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant,’” said NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller, referencing Matthew 25:23. “Dan was a servant leader and a Godly man who leaves behind a long-lasting legacy. His leadership at ECFA provided stability and accountability to so many Christian organizations and NRB members in particular. Our prayers go out to Dan’s loved ones.” “Dan Busby was a genius at connecting, communicating, leading, and innovating as he served the members of ECFA and the Kingdom of God. Dan was not only an esteemed ministry colleague, but a dear friend who cared deeply about the family of God and the people he served,” said ECFA Board Chair Wayne Pederson. Submit Nominations Now for the 2023 NRB Media Awards! The NRB Media Awards program is designed to encourage excellence in production, service to the community, faithfulness to the mission, commitment to the Gospel, and personal integrity. We recognize that material awards and public recognition are not an ultimate priority in relation to our spiritual calling to take the message of hope to the world through media. However, by honoring and celebrating outstanding facilities, ministries, programs, and producers, we hope to inspire others to raise their standards and create more compelling, relevant, and challenging Christian programming. NRB members are invited to nominate the individuals and organizations that they believe best meet the awards criteria. Self-submissions are encouraged by qualified members and will not be viewed negatively as a form of self-promotion but rather as members seeking recognition for their teams that will provide motivation to continually strive for excellence. The 2023 Annual Media Awards submission window is now open and will close on October 10, 2022.
