Dear

Re: Updated mandatory vaccination requirements

I am writing to inform you about an update to the requirements for vaccinations for health care workers in NSW.

Previously, the NSW Government announced mandatory vaccination requirements for health care workers in public health service facilities and private hospitals.

Under the new Public Health Order, the NSW Government has extended mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements to health practitioners working in private practice. This includes audiologists.

Under the Public Health Order, NSW health care workers in private practice are referred to as "Stage 2 health care workers". “Stage 1 heath care workers” are NSW Health staff and people working in private hospitals.

Under the Public Health Order, Stage 2 health care workers must receive:

  • at least 1 dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 31 January 2022; and
  • at least 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine by 28 February 2022.

"Stage 2 health care workers" are non-government health service providers and include health care workers that fall under the NSW Health Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners (Schedule 1, “Stage 2 health care workers” def, item (e)). The Code of Conduct is available here.

The Code of Conduct applies to health care workers who are members of self-regulating health professions and who are providing “health services”. “Health services” is very broadly defined and includes audiology (“health services” def, item (j1)).

Health care workers unable to have a COVID-19 vaccine can request a COVID-19 vaccination exemption for medical reasons.

Please stay safe and if there’s anything we can do to assist you during this time, please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 03 9940 3900 or email: info@audiology.asn.au.

Yours sincerely
