Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network

Thursday 16 December, 10.30 - 12noon

If you've already been to a Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive an invite and zoom link for our 10th on 16 December.

If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative networking sessions for those working in the Barnet Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference.

This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding opportunities.

Craig Miller, Director of Barnet Council's Street Scene will be joining us again on the 16 December from 11am - 12noon with an update on the Waste and Recycling elements of the Environment Act that was passed into law last month and his insights on COP26.

If you have any topics you would like to raise/discuss at future meetings, do let Ellen know.

Countdown to Net Zero Carbon

Barnet Council’s Sustainability Strategy Framework proposes organisational net zero carbon target by 2030

A framework for the council’s Sustainability Strategy including proposed targets for Barnet to be net zero as an organisation by 2030, and as a borough as soon as possible after that – and by 2050 at the latest.

Leader of Barnet Council, Cllr Dan Thomas, said: “It is imperative that we set bold sustainability targets and take action to ensure we meet them while also building a thriving borough for the future, which supports our environment, our residents, and our economy.”

The paper will be presented to the Policy and Resources Committee Tonight (Thursday 9 December) at 7pm for approval and will lay the foundations for the council’s forthcoming Sustainability Strategy. Read the story in full here.

Recycling Sorting Game

CNG a Barnet-based non-profit organisation supporting Farsi-speaking people is currently running a Crowdfunding campaign with Spacehive to raise funds for educational classes and park clean-ups to improve knowledge on recyclable materials, and appropriate recycling behaviour through practical action and sorting games.

As with any crowdfunding campaign the volume of backers is important, so if you can spare a few pounds do consider making a donation.
