October Pharmacist Month is HERE! The American Pharmacist Association (APhA) has some fun events planned for this month! Click HERE to see the full schedule for the events. Please keep an eye out for updates weekly! 10/13

APhA White Coat Challenge: Want to be featured on the APhA Instagram page for a chance to win a HYDRO FLASK? Now is the time to flex that White Coat! APhA APPE Round Table: (*Attention P3s*) Confused about APPEs? Need some insider help? Come join APhA on October 17th at STC 145 from 5pm-6pm for a round table event with current P4s on APPEs, to gain insight about planning your rotations, lottery system and much more. APhA & PPA Center City Rally: Mark your calendars for Saturday October 22nd from 10am-12pm, APhA and PPA will be hosting a rally at Center City, Dilworth Park. United States Army Career Division! Did you know that you could serve in the Army Reserve, while attending college full time? The Army Reserves provides valuable skills and experience that will separate you in your civilian career and educational assistance, for only one weekend a month and two weeks a year. In addition to your Reserve Pay, you can get up to $25,000 in the Selective Reserve GI Bill, $4,000 per year in Tuition Assistance, up to $50,000 in Student Loan Reimbursement, college credits for your Army training, and credentialing opportunities. hAPPE Hour 2022! APhA-ASP is proud to continue our tradition of hosting hAPPE hour in conjunction with Rho Chi, PLS, DIA and IPhO! This is an event where you can get the time to ask questions about APPEs of interest, connect with preceptors for future endeavors, and just build your network overall. This year, we have a variety of preceptors representing ambulatory care, pharmacy law, community pharmacy, medical information, patient safety, retail, and many more! In addition, food and refreshments will be served at the event as well! The event will be taking place on Tuesday, October 25 from 6:30-8:30 pm on the third floor of IPEX. Learn about careers in The US Public Health Service (USPHS)! Pizza and salad too! The USPHS Commissioned Corps offers rewarding careers for public health professionals and service-driven individuals who are passionate about promoting and protecting our nation’s health. On Monday, October 24th at 5:30 PM, Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Domenic D’Alessandro (PCP '2012) will present opportunities for pharmacists in the PHS. LCDR D'Alessandro learned about the USPHS during his last year of PCP and is excited to spread the message about “this best kept secret.” PHS pharmacist officers can work at a number of different federal agencies, that will be discussed during LCDR D’Alessandro’s presentation. He will also explain the benefits of serving in the USPHS, his deployment experiences, his professional experience in both Agencies, and how to apply to the USPHS. PharmD Career Toolkit now available on Canvas! Have you seen the content in the PharmD Career Toolkit, a collaboration between PCP and the Career Center? All current Pharmacy students have been invited to the use the resources, but maybe you missed it in your inbox. Look for an email from Saint Joseph’s University <notifications@instructure.com> with the subject: Course Invitation. The email states “You’ve been invited to participate in the course Pharmacy Career Toolkit." Click the “Get Started” button and then “Accept” when directed to the course in Canvas. P3 or P4 in 2023-24: Scholarship Opportunity! The Pharmacists Mutual Community Pharmacy Scholarship program supports a core belief of Pharmacists Mutual that independent community pharmacies and pharmacy services in underserved communities are critically important to the nation's healthcare system and to the pharmacy profession. To be eligible, current students must be a P3 or a P4 in the 2023-2024 (next) academic year and plan to practice in an independent or small chain community pharmacy, or an underserved geographic or cultural community, preferably in an independent or small chain community pharmacy. Interested students must submit an electronic application, college transcript, letter of recommendation from a faculty member or advisor, and an essay describing their interest in practicing in an independent or small chain community setting, or in an underserved community. Their essay should describe steps they have taken to prepare themselves for their chosen practice setting and their practice goals after graduation. To apply, students should complete the scholarship application and submit the required documents via phmic.com/scholarship. The application deadline is December 1, 2022. Check it out HERE. SSHP-DVSHP Regional Residency and Fellowship Showcase - Tuesday October 25th, 2022 and Wednesday, October 26th, 2022! The Delaware Valley Society of Health-System Pharmacists (DVSHP) will be co-hosting the annual Regional Pharmacy Residency and Fellowship Showcase on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022 from 5pm-7pm and Wednesday, October 26th, 2022 from 5pm-7pm. This event is being held virtually. Rho Chi Presents: The Monthly Study Challenge! Want to see who could log down the most focused study hours for the month of October? Participate in the Monthly Study Challenge activity. Winners will receive a $10 Amazon Gift Card. You could log down your study hours by downloading the Forest App (For Apple users) OR the Flora App (For Android users). Open your app every time you study to build as many trees as you can for the month of October. SSHP: Penn Presbyterian Medical Center Virtual Open House *October 13 5pm-7pm* Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is excited to invite you to attend our Pharmacy Residency Virtual Open House on Thursday October 13th from 5-7pm EST via Zoom. National Patient Counseling Competition (NPCC)! Interested in further developing your pharmacy career? Think you have what it takes to counsel patients on a prescription? Want to compete for a free trip to APhA’s annual conference in 2023 to represent PCP? APhA-ASP will be holding its annual National Patient Counseling Competition through Zoom! Pharmacy students (P1-P4) can register to compete in the first round on either October 18 @ 6pm or October 20 @ 6pm to showcase their communication skills and compete for a spot in the final round in November.
