Te Oreore Underslip

The pumps we installed earlier this year are keeping the ground water levels down. We’re also installing permanent electricity to the site, so the pumps can be operated from off-site.

This dewatering system is highly innovative work and helps prepare the area for the reinstatement solution. By removing water, we expect SH4 to become more resilient against future slips.

Hapokopoko Curve Rock

Due to adverse ground and weather conditions, we’ve had to push back our expected completion date by a few weeks. We’re now estimating work on this site to be completed by mid-January – weather permitting.

We’ve completed the riprap placement to the base of the MSE (mechanically stabilised earth) wall. And we’ve made good progress on the MSE retaining wall itself. We’re expecting to finish the wall this month.

Two-way traffic lights are operating on this site.

South Raupiu Retreat

There was a pause in work due to an unstable slope face and winter weather. Like Hapokopoko, we originally intended to complete the work here before Christmas. We’ve unfortunately had to push this completion date back further as we work our way through various issues. Because of this, completion date is likely to be pushed to early in the new year.

Temporary traffic light safety

Please continue to stop for red lights at all temporary traffic lights on State Highway 4. These lights are in place for the safety of all motorists as well as that of our work crews.

While many of these traffic lights are currently on a timer system, some will soon be moving to a sensor system. But either way, it’s important that everyone remains patient and follows the traffic light signals.
