Single-Session Counselling
Through the Health and Counseling Services (HCS)
single-session counselling model, students can now book appointments online within one to two days. The model has received positive feedback, with 86% of students willing to refer a friend. HCS also offers various psychoeducation and group therapy options.

Level 2 Access to Dunton Tower Temporarily Closed
Access to Dunton Tower via level 2 (at the elevator lobby), is temporarily closed to allow for the work on that level to be completed. During this time, entering and exiting the building on that level will not be possible. Access to the elevators will only be available via the tunnel. Signage will be posted.

OC Transpo Update
Saturday service is being added to train Lines 2 and 4 starting this Saturday, Jan. 25.

Compete at this year's 
Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition!

The 3MT at Carleton is a competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its potential impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. Competition will be held on March 27.
Participants will compete for prizes! Info session will be held on Jan. 29.

Upcoming Winter Term Deadlines

For the complete list of dates and deadlines, please bookmark and refer to the Registrar's Office website.

Jan. 24 - Feb. 2: Full fall and late fall term deferred examinations will be held.

Jan. 31: Last day to withdraw from full winter and the winter portion of fall/winter courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

Feb. 1: 

  • Last day for academic withdrawal from early winter courses.
  •  

  • Last day to request Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for Feb/Mar early winter final examinations to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities.

Medical Health Insurance
New for Winter 2025? Welcome! As an international student your UHIP medical health insurance is automatic. For winter term start students, the supplemental vision, dental and prescription drug coverage is not. You will need to enrol manually at https://gsacarleton.ca/healthplan/costs-opt-in-opt-out/ before the Feb. 14 deadline.

If you have dependents with you in Canada, UHIP enrolment for them is mandatory. If you have OHIP (Ontario provincial insurance), UHIP is not required! Email: uhip@carleton.ca for next steps.

 

 
 

Grammar Foundations

The Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) is offering Grammar Foundations, a self-paced, online program to help you improve your grammar for academic writing. The Carleton community can access the program through the CSAS Online Resources Brightspace page.

The lessons cover key grammar points used in academic writing; strategies for making your writing more varied and engaging; tips for building your academic vocabulary (e.g., Academic Word Lists, Academic Phrasebanks) and interactive exercises to practice grammar in academic writing situations

Participants will need to adjust the grammar choices they employ based on the specific writing style requirements of their respective academic disciplines.

Drop-In Learning and Writing Support Services

CSAS offers How to…from 10 to 2 drop-in sessions throughout the academic year (September – April). This free, drop-in Learning and Writing support service is available to all Carleton students. 

How to…from 10 to 2 sessions focus on helping students overcome their learning- and writing-related challenges, while supporting them with building learning and writing skills and strategies necessary for their academic success.

Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans Funding Opportunities

The Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans (CPCoE) currently has funding available in the form of Capacity Building Initiatives (CBIs) for graduate students who are conducting research in the field of chronic pain with a focus on Canadian Veterans.

There are 4 opportunities available, 2 at the doctoral level and 2 at the master's level.

Scholarship Opportunity for Graduate Students Researching Food Insecurity

The Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security is now accepting applications for their 2025-2026 Scholarship in Food Insecurity. Four $15,000 scholarships are distributed annually to support master's or PhD students who propose research to advance a better understanding of food insecurity in Canada.

Research Impact Canada Award

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Research Impact Canada Engaged Scholarship Award for Graduate Students!

This award recognizes graduate students in master’s and doctoral programs whose scholarship exemplifies meaningful engagement with the community, incorporates knowledge mobilization (KMb) principles and practices, and demonstrates a commitment to positive societal impact.

Two recipients in the master’s category will receive $2,000 each and two recipients in the doctoral category will receive $3,000 each.

Application deadline is Feb. 24, 2025.
