Welcome to the Community Organisation Support Newsletter from Inclusion Barnet for Barnet Together!
We have been continuing to build upon the past few months of dedicated work as part of our developing team in partnership with Barnet Together organisations, who are delivering incredible support to Barnet's VCFSE sector.
Our Barnet Together partners Young Barnet Foundation and Volunteering Barnet have met with us last week for an away day at Hendon Town Hall as well as running a Charity Leaders networking event which took place at ITJL in Colindale.
We will be running our next member network meeting next week on Thursday 2nd May. The session will focus on fundraising support with a special speaker coming from the National Lottery. Additionally, member organisations can now book a 1:1 slot with Natalie from the Lottery on two dates coming up as well as an online or in-person meeting with the COS team by choosing a slot from our bookings page.
In this month’s newsletter, we are promoting various opportunities from across the Barnet Together partnership, including funding opportunities and the chance for members to sign up to a range of events.

Upcoming Meetings & Events
This session next week is focused on supporting our Community Organisation Support members with grant fundraising tips through the National Lottery. Learn about valuable resources on grant fundraising strategies and hear about tips for introducing community groups to grant fundraising tools, resources, and digital platforms.
Our agenda includes presentations on grant-based fundraising, National Lottery opportunities, a Q&A session and the opportunity to hear from an officer in the National Lottery Community Fund team.

You can now book personalised one-to-one support sessions online with the Inclusion Barnet Community Organisation Support Team! Whether you're seeking assistance with fundraising strategies, organisational development, or any other aspect of your work, our team is here to provide tailored support to help you thrive. And the best part? You can book your session conveniently to meet online or offline, whichever suits your preference! We will do the online meetings on Teams or Zoom and the offline meetings will take place at our office space in Colindale.
For two dates only, we have a special colleague from the National Lottery Community Fund, Natalie Denner, who will be providing one-to-one support sessions for Reaching Communities fund applications. These are available on the following dates:
- Tuesday 14 May from 2-5pm
- Tuesday 11 June from 2-5pm
Ridge Green Futures Climate Training
Ridge are really pleased to be offering their Green Futures Training programme here in Barnet!
The training is taking place in person on 26th April, 9:30am-4:30pm at Hendon Town Hall. This is an all day event and lunch will be provided.
By the end of this training you will be able to:
- understand the basic science of carbon emissions and climate change
- understand human impact on climate change
- increased confidence when discussing climate change
- identify basic climate change misinformation
- understand what decarbonisation activities are happening in your local area
- apply your knowledge to real-world decision-making
One of our Barnet Together members would like to invite you to the Maxability Spring Open Day taking place on Friday 26th April 2024 at their studio near Colindale in the Flightways Resource Centre, NW9 5UX. The event will take place between 3pm and 6pm, and you are welcome to come at any point during that time.
This is a free and non-ticketed event but if you would like to come to Maxability’s Spring Open Day on Friday 26th April, please do let them know by sending an RSVP to info@maxability.org.uk by Tuesday 23rd April.
Finchley Sharing Space is a community hub that supports climate and social action where Barnet residents can join together to share ideas, skills, food and stuff; creating a circular economy, and connected, resilient communities. It is run by the community, for the community with a range of topics covered in response to what residents in that area find of interest, and include F.E.S.T activities: Fix, Eat, Swap, Talk events. The Sharing Space is running as a 12-week programme between Late March-July with an event taking place each week on Wednesdays 5pm-7pm) at the Finchley Church End Library (a walking distance from Finchley Central Tube Station). There are also three sessions at JVS (Golders Green) where Barnet residents will demonstrate how to cook delicious vegan foods. The next event is on Wednesday 1st May, 5pm-7pm at Finchley Church End Library.

The next Barnet Voluntary Community Sector Forum will be held on:
Thursday 23rd May from 10am – 12am at The Meritage Centre, Church End, London NW4 4JT
This event will be hosted in partnership with Meridien Wellbeing.

Latest Funding Opportunities
We’ve had lots of new members join us recently, so we thought that our dedicated section on grants could cover some well-known grant opportunities, some web pages and resources to watch out for, and some new grants. We have also included a ‘surprise of the month’ grant, which is one that was new to our grants team, which goes to the YAPP Foundation.
YAPP Foundation
Have you heard of the YAPP Foundation? They offer grants to registered charities of £3000 per year for up to 3 years for organisations with a total annual expenditure of less than £40,000.
Charity Excellence Framework
Did you know that the Charity Excellence Framework houses an incredible webpage which is full of information on funding opportunities for small charities? They even offer some advice on bidding. Click here for more.
The National Lottery Community Fund
An oldie, but a goodie! The National Lottery Community Foundation ‘Awards For All’ funding is a great place to start. They offer grants between £300-£20,000. They also offer another which starts from £20,001+. If your organisation hasn’t applied to the National Lottery Community Fund for Awards for All funding yet, we recommend trying!
The National Lottery Heritage Fund
Is your organisation interested in story-telling and exploring the rich heritage or history enmeshed in our local communities? If your organisation loves talking to people about their lives, and values ‘anything from the past that you would like to pass on to future generations’ then the National Lottery Heritage Fund is for you! Read more here.
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation
Is your organisation delivering arts or cultural activity to promote positive social change? Check out this fund by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation which offers grants ranging from £90,000 to £300,000 for this work.
The Lloyds Bank Foundation
The Lloyds Bank Foundation have recently launched their ‘Racial Equity Programme’ for small local charities and community interest companies working with people experiencing inequality because of their race or ethnicity. You can apply for an unrestricted grant of £75,000 for three years if you meet their criteria.
Ongoing grants from last time
Thomas Wall Trust
The Thomas Wall Trust offers grants of up to £5000 for projects (not general organisational costs) which help improve the communication skills of disadvantaged adults and support NEET people into employment.
Application deadline: 29 April 2024. More info on Thomas Wall Trust grant.
Partners for Health 2024
London Catalyst, in collaboration with the Hospital Saturday Fund, is offering grants of £3000 - £15,000 to projects which can demonstrate:
- positive outcomes for people facing significant barriers to health
- a new approach or thoughtful development of service
- partnership between health and community organisations.
Priority is given to charities with an annual income of less than £500,000.
The Wakeham Trust
The Wakeham Trust is a volunteer-run trust which offers grants to micro-scale community projects, and has recently added education to its list of
funding priorities.
The Trust aims to help small groups who are working to make a difference for others. Projects which might find it difficult to secure funding from larger organisations are prioritised.

News & Opportunities
Young Barnet Foundation are hiring!
YBF are recruiting for a new role! They are looking for a Part-Time Finance and Human Resources Administrator, to work 7 hours per week.
Application closing date is Friday 17th May 2024, 5PM, with interviews scheduled for Thursday 23rd May 2024.

- Hours: 7 hours per week - 0.2 PT role (plus statutory breaks).
- Term: 12-month fixed term contract, with potential extension subject to funding.
- Base: YBF Office and occasional hybrid working.
- Remuneration: £26,000 (pro-rata).
GLA Community Resilience Toolkit
With funding from the Greater London Authority, Groundwork South (Communities Prepared) and Groundwork London are working together to develop a London community resilience toolkit, designed for use by voluntary organisations, community groups, faith groups and
others.
The aim of the toolkit is to help communities better prepare for and handle the impact of extreme weather events and emergencies.
Groundwork are currently running a short survey, to learn what content would be most / least useful, and what barriers might prevent your community using the toolkit.

The Meeting Room is open
We are delighted to inform you that The Meeting Room within the Broadwalk Centre is relaunching for bookings after a brief closure for maintenance and improvement works.
Ahead of the room’s official reopening this month, we wanted to ensure previous users of The Meeting Room such as yourself had the first opportunity to book The Meeting Room, again completely free of charge.

Future Leaders Programme 2024 Cohort
The Future Leaders programme supports young entrepreneurs from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to build the skills and network they need to grow successful businesses.
For our 2024 cohort, we’re looking for aspiring business owners:
- with a digital product or service offering
- from an ethnically diverse or lower socioeconomic background, or a person with a disability
- between the ages of 21-30

South Asian Heritage Month - get involved!
South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) runs from Thursday 18 July until Saturday 17 August. Along with providing learning opportunities for others, the month enables people of South Asian heritage to reclaim their history and identity by sharing their own stories and experiences.
The theme this year is ‘Free to Be Me’ which encourages us to celebrate unique identities and voices. Barnet Council will be working with residents and communities to celebrate SAHM across the borough. To get involved, email community@barnet.gov.uk.

Volunteer Management Training for Volunteer Involving Organisations
Whether you are brand new to volunteer management or would like a refresher, come along to a free two-hour session covering all you need to know about volunteer management and best practice when coordinating volunteers.
The session will cover:
- how to provide a great volunteer experience
- recruitment
- volunteer inductions
- support and supervision
- skills and qualities of a good volunteer manager
- how to reward your volunteers appropriately
- what to do when things go wrong, and how to end volunteer relationships.

Healthcare for European Nationals in the UK
Barnet's Romanian and Eastern European Hub has created an animation video to explain the type of medical healthcare services European nationals can access in the UK after Brexit, based on their EU Settlement Scheme status.
The video also explains how medical professionals can check a patient's status.
