Project Update - Marlborough Sounds and surrounding areas

4 May 2022 | Next update 11 May 2022

Marlborough Roads Recovery Update

Kenepuru Road, Queen Charlotte Drive, Port Underwood, Pelorus and French Pass

This Week's Summary

There are two daytime road closures in place on Moetapu Bay and Kenepuru roads. See below for more information.

On Monday 9 May, the daytime construction closure on Kenepuru Road will start at 12.30 pm.

Although significant precautions and protocols have been undertaken, Omicron is having an impact on crews as they work to stop the spread through whānau. Because of this, work schedules and road closures may change at short notice.

Kenepuru Road, between Water Tank Slip and Sandy Bay, is Restricted Public Access.

A restricted access permit is required, subject to approval, for vehicles over the restrictions.

Plan ahead, expect delays

You may experience delays on parts of Kenepuru Road, particularly between Mahau Road intersection and the Portage side of Black Rock (Route Position 33.1).

On Queen Charlotte Drive, Kenepuru Road beyond Sandy Bay, and the outer Sounds, traffic management is in place so please expect delays.

  • From 10 May Kenepuru Road, between Moetapu Bay and Tara Bay turnoffs, will be closed for all traffic from from 8am to 5pm, opening between 12pm and 12.30pm.

Please note, while the above dates and times are scheduled, bad weather, Covid restrictions or other unforeseen issues may cause works to be rescheduled at short notice. In this event, an Antenno will be sent to notify people of any changes to the above closures.

Delays will occur outside of this closure while traffic management is put in place for the closing and re-opening of the road. If you wish to avoid these delays we suggest you factor a further 30 minutes on either side of the closure into your journey.
