State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill maintenance closure - 5 nights from Sunday 5 November

A reminder that SH2 Remutaka Hill will close for essential maintenance for five nights in November - 9pm Sunday 5 November to 4am Friday 10 November.

Reduced number of escorted crossings in November

We can only offer two escorted crossings due to the extensive asphalt resurfacing planned for each night, weather permitting. This work requires large machinery that takes up much of the road. The crossings have been scheduled for the safest possible times to pass by the works.

Escorted crossings each night:

• 10:30pm (22:30) Featherston to Hutt
• 11:30pm (23:30) Hutt to Featherston

Please be patient - the crossings will be slow for everyone's safety.

Remutaka Hill Closure Escort Booking Form

People wanting to cross the hill during the closure should book in advance for a place on the escorted crossings.

• For Sunday night, please book by 4pm Friday, 3 November
• For Monday through Thursday nights, please book by 4pm each day for that night

Escorted crossings are available for light vehicles only. To keep our workers safe, heavy vehicles cannot be accommodated.

Numbers are strictly limited and travellers turning up without a booking risk being turned away or having to wait at the closure point for the next opportunity. If you have a genuine emergency on the night, the hill manager will decide how best to help you.

Access will be available for 'flashing light' emergency services throughout the closure.

We understand the closures may inconvenience some road users and thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out this essential maintenance work.

These regular night closures significantly reduce the number of disruptions for road users at other times. Road crews can complete a large amount of work safely during these closures because multiple crews can work across the hill at the same time without disrupting traffic.
