MAY IMPACT REPORT

Every month, your impact grows.

Because of you and The Block community, we keep getting closer to our goal of building 200 schools and 4000 homes with recycled plastic waste in Lombok, Indonesia. Thank you for transforming lives and cleaning up our planet every month.

THREE MORE BLOCK SCHOOLS HAVE STARTED

Our local partner, Classroom of Hope Indonesia, began work on three new Block Schools this week. Three local contractor teams are currently setting the foundations and laying the tiles at the schools in preparation to build the schools. It's always exciting to see the start of new schools! We'll be sure to keep you updated on the building progress.

TANJUNG 5 PRIMARY

The building team at Tanjung 5 Primary School has already begun laying the tiles for the school's new classroom. After the earthquakes destroyed all six classrooms and staff room at Tanjung 5 Primary, the government provided five classrooms and a staff room. However, some students are still learning in a temporary classroom with poor lighting and ventilation. The new Block classroom will provide safe, positive learning space where students can realise their full potential.

SDN 4 BENTEK

It was an honour to have the Head of Education of North Lombok lead a groundbreaking ceremony at Bentek 4 Primary School where a team of local contractors will build four new Block classrooms and four new Block toilets. The 2018 earthquakes destroyed Bentek 4 Primary School. After the earthquakes, the government was able to help by building three permanent classrooms, but with six class groups, the students and teachers need more space. Right now, they're using four temporary classrooms that are 200 meters from the school, which means the teachers and students move back and forth throughout the day. This arrangement causes considerable disruption to the process of teaching and learning. The new classrooms and toilets will ensure these students can study in a safe learning environment and have access to clean toilets to improve sanitation standards and prevent hygiene-related illnesses.

SDIQ DARUL MUSTHAFA

Darul Musthafa Islamic Primary School is located in a remote farming village in the Gangga region of North Lombok, Indonesia. The village is far from the nearest government school, so the local community set up Darual Musthafa Islamic Primary School. It has four class groups but no permanent classrooms. The students currently share two temporary classrooms and some space at the nearby kindergarten. The school’s ten teachers do not have an office to plan learning activities. The current conditions are very uncomfortable and unconducive to teaching or learning. For all these reasons, a new Block School with three classrooms, one staff room and two Block toilets will be built at Darul Musthafa Islamic Primary School.
