Today, BC Family Doctors and Doctors of BC celebrate this remarkable progress by releasing Two Years of Progress: Celebrating the Impact of the LFP Payment Model. “The LFP Payment Model proves that transformative change is possible as it created a compensation option for family physicians who provide longitudinal, relationship-based, family medicine care to a known panel of patients,“ said Dr Maryam Zeineddin, BC Family Doctors president. “Patients want a family doctor they trust, someone who understands their health journey. This model empowers family doctors to build those relationships.“ This success in growing attachment and recruitment numbers was celebrated today by the BC Ministry of Health. Designed to stabilize and strengthen family medicine, the LFP Payment Model offers a new compensation option that values the time, expertise and comprehensive care family doctors provide to their patients. In 2024, it expanded to include the important care that family doctors provide in hospitals and long-term care facilities, ensuring patients receive continuity of care across the healthcare system. “Family doctors are at the forefront of primary care. A strong primary care system where family doctors are well supported helps to ensure patients get the care they need,” said Dr Charlene Lui, president of Doctors of BC. “The LFP Payment Model is a vital step in attracting doctors to BC and keeping them in family medicine which helps to attach more patients.” The LFP Payment Model is an investment in patient care that is already showing results. It has brought more doctors into the system, connected more patients to care and shown the power of collaboration between government, physician organizations and patient advocates. The report details the model's success, the ongoing work to improve it, and the need for continued efforts to support family doctors. BC Family Doctors and Doctors of BC are committed to ensuring every British Columbian has access to a family doctor.
