Work starting soon on the SH33 safety improvements at Paengaroa
The route is 34km long with some tricky terrain so the work will be done in three stages. Starting with the easiest section first, at Paengaroa, the safety improvements involve:
-
100km/h area – widening the shoulders on both sides of the road, installing a wide centreline and putting flexible roadside safety barriers in some places.
-
70km/h area – widening the road shoulder in some places, and new road markings.
Who’s doing the work?
The contractor making these improvements is WestLink.
Contact
The contact person for this work is Morgan Chapman, phone: 027 201 7378
When does work start?
Monday 20 November
How long will it take?
WestLink to be finished by mid 2018, but this will depend on the weather. No work will happen for two weeks over the Christmas holiday period.
What’s happening now?
Firstly, the top soil will be removed, extra fill material will be brought in for the widening and chip seal will be laid.
While this work is underway, there’ll be times when a temporary speed limit is needed. You might have some minor delays because of the work, and we appreciate your patience.
What happens next?
By mid 2018, new seal will be laid across the full width of the road, flexible roadside barriers put in and new line markings.
Stage two will start sometime in 2018, followed by stage three in 2019.
Take a look at the project map to see where the project goes, and when the other stages of work will happen.
