Dear ,

Re: Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for health care workers

I am writing to inform you about a recent update to the COVID-19 vaccination requirements announced by the QLD Government and a public health direction that came into effect on 16 December 2021.

Previously, the Queensland Government introduced mandatory vaccination requirements to all workers in healthcare, including private sector healthcare workers. Now, under the new Workers in healthcare setting (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements) Direction (No. 2), the definition of ‘worker in healthcare’ has been clarified.

A ‘worker in healthcare’ means a person who works, undertakes an educational placement, or volunteers in a healthcare setting, including:

  • a healthcare professional providing healthcare, except to the extent the person works entirely from their home or outside a healthcare setting, to deliver healthcare services that do not involve face to face contact with patients or clients; and•
  • any other employee, contractor, independent third party or volunteer in a healthcare setting, whether employed by the healthcare setting or performing the work under another arrangement.

The amended definition of ‘worker in healthcare’ removes workers operating out of their home or office building via telehealth, who have no face-to-face contact with clients, patients or others accessing healthcare. This means that unvaccinated allied health professionals working in Queensland can continue to provide non-contact services via telehealth.

Please stay safe, and if there is anything we can do to assist you during this time, please don't hesitate to contact the office on 03 9940 3900 or email: info@audiology.asn.au.

Yours sincerely,
