Dear Members of The Hill School Community:

Head of School Zachary G. Lehman P’16 ’18 recently shared with me the news that after 11 years of dedicated service to The Hill School he will leave at the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic year to become the head of school at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut.

On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Zack for his bold, visionary leadership of our School. He successfully struck a balance of preserving Hill’s most treasured traditions and core values, while simultaneously advancing the School with innovative practices that have expanded and enhanced Hill’s academic and student life programming, facilities, and operations.

Under Zack’s guidance The Hill achieved both record enrollment and fundraising. He has elevated the status of our great Family Boarding School as a leader among independent and boarding schools alike, and his leadership was never more valuable than during the pandemic.

Zack remains committed to leaving The Hill healthy and strong. In addition to supporting a smooth leadership transition, Zack’s main priority in 2022-2023 will be to complete fundraising for a new residence hall on the site of the former Classroom Building, a final key component of The Strength of All Campaign, which currently stands at $165 million. Read a personal letter from Zack reflecting on his time at Hill and future plans.

I have asked Board Vice Chair Michael W. Harris ’84 P’22 to lead the Search Committee to identify Zack’s successor. The Committee’s first task will be to retain a top search firm to help guide a transparent process and introduce us to extraordinary, diverse candidates.  As a Board, we are committed to keeping our School community updated throughout the course of the search.

Zack and his wife, Amy, as both faculty members and parents of two graduates, have been incredible ambassadors and cheerleaders for our School and the thousands of students in their charge during the last 10 years. I hope you will join me in extending to them our sincere thanks and wishing them and their children, Mitch ’16, Griff ’18, and Avery, all the very best in their life beyond The Hill.

Sincerely,
James L. Alexandre '75
