O-Train Has Resumed Operations on Campus
Train service has resumed to campus as OCTranspo launched Lines 2 & 4 on Jan. 6. This first phase will offer five-day service, from Monday to Friday for a minimum of two weeks. The second phase will offer six-day service, from Monday to Saturday, for a minimum of two weeks and the third phase will offer 7-day service. Details can be

Reminder: New Graduate Student Winter Term Orientation
is Today!

For our new graduate students, please join us today, Jan. 9 for an in-person orientation session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration Reminder
Jan. 10 is the last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) in early winter courses. Jan. 17 is the last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) in full winter and late winter courses.

Planning to Graduate in Winter 2025?
Graduate students who have not electronically submitted their final thesis copy to our office at Graduate Studies by Jan. 17 will not be eligible to graduate in winter 2025.

Educational Costs
Estimating the cost of a year of study varies from student to student and depends on the program and number of credits you are registered in. Tuition and compulsory ancillary/miscellaneous fees include classes, U-Pass, academic, administrative and career support, lab and project resources, library access, athletic facilities and supplemental health plan. The Educational Costs webpage has estimated fees for each program of study at Carleton University.

Level 2 Access to Dunton Tower Temporarily Closed
Access to Dunton Tower via level 2 (at the elevator lobby), is temporarily closed for an estimated four weeks to allow for the work on that level to be completed. During this time, entering and exiting the building on that level will not be possible. Access to the elevators will only be available via the tunnel. Signage will be posted.

SSHRC Storytellers Challenge has Launched!

SSHRC's annual Storytellers Challenge asks postsecondary students to show Canadians, in up to three minutes or 300 words, how social sciences and humanities research is affecting our lives, our world and our future for the better. The Challenge is open to all graduate students enrolled at a Canadian postsecondary institution to tell the story of a SSHRC-funded research project—their own or that of a researcher at their institution. A jury will then select 20 finalists. These Top 20 submissions will each be awarded $3,000 and additional training in research communications will be offered. In June 2025, the Top 20 will compete for a chance to place among the Final Five winners and receive an additional $1,000.

International Student Services Office

ISSO Offering Services Virtually
Due to scheduled office maintenance, the International Student Services Office (ISSO) is offering services virtually. Members of the ISSO team are available in-person in the Student Experience Office in 430 Tory Building from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to answer questions and get you connected to services and supports.

Jan. 10: Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) in early winter courses.

Jan. 13: OSAP deferral deadline.

Jan. 17:

  • Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) in full winter and late winter courses.

  • Last day to withdraw from early winter courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

  • Graduate students who have not electronically submitted their final thesis copy to the office of Graduate Studies will not be eligible to graduate in winter 2025.

Jan. 24 - Feb. 2: Full fall and late fall term deferred examinations will be held.

Jan. 31: Last day to withdraw from full winter and the winter portion of fall/winter courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

 

 

Career Panel on Navigating Careers in Mental Health: Insights from Employers

Are you interested in learning more about careers in the mental health field? Join Career Services and Co-operative Education for a night that combines an employer panel with networking event! This event is open to all students but targeted to those in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Neuroscience, and Graduate Studies.

Each employer will have a representative from their organization speaking on the panel to share their expert knowledge on careers in the mental health field. Following the panel, employers will be available to network with students, opening doors to potential career opportunities.

Research Impact Canada Award

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Research Impact Canada Engaged Scholarship Award for Graduate Students!

This award recognizes graduate students in master’s and doctoral programs whose scholarship exemplifies meaningful engagement with the community, incorporates knowledge mobilization (KMb) principles and practices, and demonstrates a commitment to positive societal impact.

Two recipients in the master’s category will receive $2,000 each and two recipients in the doctoral category will receive $3,000 each.

Application deadline is Feb. 24, 2025.

Scholarship Opportunity for Graduate Students Researching Food Insecurity

The Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security is now accepting applications for their 2025-2026 Scholarship in Food Insecurity. Four $15,000 scholarships are distributed annually to support master's or PhD students who propose research to advance a better understanding of food insecurity in Canada.

Universities Canada: Tanaka Fund Grant

Universities Canada and The Japan Foundation are pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 competition for the Tanaka Fund Grant to Support Promising Junior Japanese Studies Scholars.

Japanese Studies is defined as a subcategory of area studies centered around social sciences and humanities research on Japan, which includes the study of language, culture, literature, politics, history, religion, economics, philosophy, film, arts, and science.

Tanaka Fund 2025 Competition

  • Annual value: A total of $60,000 is available through the 2025 competition.
  • Grant value: Grants up to a maximum of $12,000 are available.
  • Eligibility: master’s and doctoral level students.
  • Duration: A maximum of three months in Japan.
  • Application deadline: Jan. 31.

Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans Funding Opportunities

The Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans (CPCoE) currently has funding available in the form of Capacity Building Initiatives (CBIs) for graduate students who are conducting research in the field of chronic pain with a focus on Canadian Veterans.

There are 4 opportunities available, 2 at the doctoral level and 2 at the master's level.
