Kia ora koutou,

In preparation for the winter season, the SH20B project team continues working throughout the night to progress the project with little impact on daytime traffic.

In the las month, landscaping, road surface asphalting and driveway works have been completed as well as the installation of the wire rope safety barriers.

In recent weeks, we have identified a few vehicles crossing the SH20B interchange from the SH20 off-ramp to the northbound on ramp to avoid queues.

To stop these illegal traffic movements, we have installed 'no right turn' and 'no straight ahead traffic' signs at the SH20 off ramp. Please follow the signposts for safe journeys.

Introducing Oliver Brooks

Story
Story

Oli began his journey with Fulton Hogan in 2016 as a part-time traffic controller while studying at university.

Following the part-time role, he has served as a maintenance engineer and also a site engineer before recently taking up a project engineer position.

"Working on an accelerated programme for SH20B and meeting some tight deadlines have definitely been a challenge. But, it has encouraged many to think outside the box to work more efficiently and safely," Oli says.

"It's awesome for me to get involved in different project phases as everything is now coming together as the project is heading towards the completion. It’s a great feeling."

In his spare time Oli enjoys getting out and exploring nature, sport, music festivals and cannot wait to travel overseas again in the near future.

Story

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Auckland International Airport Limited are upgrading State Highway 20B for better and more reliable travel options with a new shared path and additional priority lanes between Pukaki Creek Bridge and State Highway 20.

This project will integrate with improved transport facilities within the airport precinct along SH20B and at the upgraded Puhinui Station Interchange.

The project is the first step of the Southwest Gateway programme to provide better public transport, walking and cycling facilities with safer and more efficient freight movements to, from and around Southwest Auckland.

Fulton Hogan undertakes this work on behalf of Waka Kotahi.

Key early improvements on State Highway 20B to be delivered by 2021 include:

  • A safe place for people to walk and ride bikes
  • Safety improvements including central median barrier protection, improved lighting and a reduced speed
  • Improved pavement, drainage and stormwater treatment
  • Two improved intersections at Campana Road and Manukau Memorial Gardens.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency works to create transport solutions for all New Zealanders – from helping new drivers earn their licences, to leading safety campaigns to investing in public transport, state highways and local roads.
