Those who dropped into our recent information session, overwhelmingly supported the proposed improvements to the dangerous SH1/29 intersection

Submissions close 9 February 2022

Thank you to those people who dropped in to talk to the project team at our Information Session held on 25 January outside the BNZ in Cambridge. Overwhelmingly those in attendance expressed their support for the two-lane roundabout which will replace the current dangerous T intersection, with many saying it was “about time.”

There was good support for the underpasses in the design for walkers and cyclists. We also had some interesting suggestions as to the actual design of the improvements.

There is still time to make a submission, whether you are in support or oppose the proposed activity.  Submissions close on 9 February.  If you would like to make a submission, here’s the link to the simple form that is needed: Submission form

About the New Zealand Upgrade Programme

Waka Kotahi and KiwiRail are delivering the New Zealand Upgrade Programme, the Government’s $8.7 billion transport investment in growing areas across the country. Communities can look forward to transport improvements that provide more travel choices, help people get where they’re going safely and grow our economy, while responding to the impacts of travel on the environment.

As part of the NZ Upgrade Programme, safety at one of New Zealand’s most dangerous intersections – State Highway 1 and State Highway 29 at Piarere – will be improved with construction of this new roundabout to replace the existing T-intersection.
