Traffic switch delayed

The traffic switch mentioned last week will now be in place from the night of Monday 14 September.

As a reminder, access will be restricted to the southern end of Waipapa Loop Road to allow for works on the western side of the roundabout.

A one-way system will be in place along Skippers Lane from south to north.

On exiting Skippers Lane, right-turning traffic will be directed around Waipapa Loop Road to make the turn onto the state highway safer and easier. Left-turning vehicles will be able to use a new exit at the northern end.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has produced a graphic (see below) for this which will be available to download on our website within the next 2-3 days.

Works on the eastern side

Stormwater installation on the eastern/state highway side of Skippers Lane is almost complete and road pavement work will likely be finished by the end of next week.

Temporary entrance reinstated

The temporary entrance at the southern end of Skippers Lane will be reinstated for certain periods over the next few weeks when crews are working across the permanent entrance.

This will include:

  • half a day early next week for streetlight ducting
  • one day during the week of 21 September for kerb works (weather dependent).

Kerb and footpath work

Kerb preparation and pouring will get underway from next week, moving from the eastern to the western side of Skippers Lane.

On the western/shopfront side, preparatory works will likely begin the week of 21 September. The concrete pour on this side is booked for Saturday 26 September (weather dependent) and steel plates will be used to ensure access to any businesses that are open. The pour will be done from north to south, with an early start to minimise disruption.

The footpath will be laid in sections beginning late September or early October. We will provide more details closer to the time.

If you have any questions about upcoming works, please contact Downer stakeholder manager Suzy McCall on 0800 827 392 or 021 956 084.
